9 Things You Should Know Before Entering Your Senior Year Of High School

It's that time of the year again, and if you're a senior in high school, it's the last time. Entering your 4th year in high school and knowing it's almost all over can be an intimidating thought. There isn't a right or wrong way to go about this year. At the end of the day, it will be what you want to make it. Here are some things I feel every senior should know to make this go a little easier.

1. Stress is inevitable.

You can not hide from it, it will come for you. Stress is far from fun but its part of life and there’s not much you can do about it. Have a plan for how you want to deal with your stress and if you feel you need a break, take one. Do not let stress consume your senior year.

2. Time goes by really fast.

You've probably heard that about a million times but it is not a lie. I did not believe it until I was living it. There may be times where you think that time is going by too slow, but when you look back at it you'll find that it went by really fast. Enjoy the time you have left in high school.

3. Go to as many events as possible.

This goes for both sport and non-sport activities. Go to as much as you can and be as involved as possible. Everything has the possibility of becoming a good time and and even better memory. Go to the stupid dances and dance the night away. Go to the football games and go all out for the themes.

4. Do not slack off.

It is so easy to slack off your senior year but you really shouldn't. You will more than likely end up regretting it. Especially when its coming to the end of a semester and you're begging your teacher for extra credit that they had already told you they would not give you. Second semester, even the teachers slack off, but you shouldn't tap out completely.

5. Understand change.

You have to understand or at least attempt to understand that soon things will be very different than what they used to be. Understanding this will give you a greater appreciation for the year.

6. Be Spirited.

Go all out for everything you can. Do not be worried that you're going to over-do it because you won't. There isn't a way to go overboard with being spirited senior year as long as you're doing it with spirit.

7. Don't worry about meeting expectations.

Senior year is a big hype, for good reason, but it isn't bad if you're not into the senior celebrations. Senior year is yours to do what you want with it.

8. Try and spend as much time as you can with loved ones.

There's a good chance in a year you won't be living at home and you will be leaving behind the people that you know and know you best. Spend as much time with them as possible because soon they won't be there.

9. Be excited.

It's your senior year! You've come along way and you have a future ahead of you. Excite yourself with plans of the future. You should be excited about finishing one chapter and going onto the next. Enjoy your senior year and all the things you love about where you're living now.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
