10 Things To Look Forward To Spring Semester

Mark your calendars, Bonnies.

10 Things To Look Forward To Spring Semester

Personally, my favorite part of spring semester is when it actually starts to look like spring around St. Bonaventure. When the weather gets better, Bonnies students start to crawl out of their caves, and finally there is life on campus again.

However, believe it or not, there is still so much to look forward to throughout the semester, even when it is -10 degrees outside. And, as a second semester senior, I intend to make the most out of these annual events that make being a Bonnie the best.

1. Bonnies basketball

Bonnies basketball games are hands-down one of the most fun events on campus every year. The whole school comes together to cheer for the group of guys and girls who represent us in Atlantic 10 basketball. This season will be even more fun with both Bonnies' teams on a tear. There's a reason The RC is one of the hardest places to play in Division I basketball.

2. A-10 Tournament in Brooklyn

Going along with Bonnies basketball is the Atlantic 10 Tournament in Brooklyn. It is legitimately a bunch of Bonaventure basketball fans taking over the Barclay's Center to root for the brown and white. Different place, same Bonnies.

3. Spring break

Whether you are going somewhere warm or not, it is likely you will spend spring break with some Bonnies. We always tend to have a break that falls before every other school's, so road trips with your Bonnies are almost required.

4. House Crawl

God bless us all.

5. Junior Prom

The looks on people's faces when I tell them I went to "junior prom" at college are never not funny. Many people assume that, at 21 years old, I attended a high school junior prom. But, it is just one of the many unique events we have here. Unlike high school junior prom, they serve alcohol.

6. Front porch parties

Like I said earlier, when the sun comes out, so do the Bonnies. When the weather is nice, it is an obligation to attend at least one porch party a week. Something about hanging outside with a group of friends makes for the best time.

7. Bonnies baseball games

Whether you know the game of baseball or not, going to the games is a blast. If you are lucky, you can find someone who brings a grill and makes some hot dogs.

8. Spring weekend

Classes end. Kickball games. Hilarious custom T-shirts. Chicken nuggets. Inflatable obstacle courses someone is likely to break their ankle on. And that's just Friday.

9. Slaughter party

It is $20 to attend the backyard party at the infamous off-campus house, but it is so worth it. There is a legitimate band, games, kegs, and pizza (if you get there early enough).

10. Senior week

The week in between the end of finals and graduation is dedicated to the seniors. One last week with everyone filled with beers, river-rafting, and our two favorite bars with our favorite people. It is not all sad. These days are for spending with the group of people who were by your side through all the bad, late-night decisions and overly stressful finals weeks. Enjoy it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
