The election is coming up shortly, and as we come to decide who should run this country, we need to begin seriously thinking about who would be best fit to do so. So far a lot of people think that the only candidates are Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, which sixty percent of the country are against. Instead of voting for the candidate that you hate a little less than the other candidate, we need to start noticing another which the media has neglected to show, Gary Johnson. Now who is Gary Johnson? Here are a few things that you need to know about the candidate and why you should vote for him.
He's not Trump or Clinton.
As I said earlier, sixty percent of voters in this country are against the candidates of the major political parties. Around forty percent of the voters in the republican party are voting Trump to stop Clinton from being in office, and around forty percent are voting Clinton to stop Trump. Instead of voting in spite of another candidate, find a candidate worth voting for. If you education yourself about the candidates running outside of the two major political parties, you could learn a lot.
He wants to balance the budget, and he proves he can do it.
One of the biggest policies that Johnson has discussed during his campaign is balancing the budget. While most politicians running for president claim this as well, Johnson has proven that he actually can. One of the ways he would like to do this is by replacing the corporate and personal income tax with the "fair tax." By doing this, it would eliminate taxing on saved income, change the age to receive Social Security from 67 to inbetween 72 or 75, and eliminate the amount of money that is spent on government programming such as welfare and medicare/medicaid. Along with this, Johnson has started that he when it comes to deficits, he will automatically veto it.
He has a clean record.
Trump has been known for his failures in business, including Trump Airlines and Trump University. And as we all know, Hillary doesn't do the best job at cleaning out her emails or using the correct one at that. So far, we have found no excruciating problems with Johnson (besides not knowing the name of Aleppo, the town where many Syrian children are dying). On top of that, during his reign as governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003, he balanced the budget, cut taxes, and spent more money on providing better educations for students in New Mexico.
If you supported Sanders, you'll most likely support Johnson.
For all those "feeling the Bern" back in the primaries, Johnson stated that he agreed with Sanders about 72 percent of the time. He agrees with Sanders on his main policies, such as a woman's right to choose and the legalization of marijuana. Also just like Sanders, he believes in small businesses, which help produce jobs and stimulate the economy in a positive direction.
He wants to get our troops back home.
While this has been an issue for quite some time now, it's time we start seeing some of our troops fighting overseas in the Middle East home. Trump would like to increase defense spending, increase the amount of troops overseas by a little more than 25 percent, as well as missile defenses.. Hillary, on the other hand, wants to help support the families of those overseas. While this is not a bad idea whatsoever, this does not decrease the problem of getting the troops out. Johnson is focused on getting the troops out of the Middle East, and he would like to decrease military spending so he can spend it on education and balancing the budget.
He wants to help the environment.
As much as we would like not to believe, but the world is changing because of our carelessness about taking care of it. Johnson would like to enact laws to help protect the Earth from being further destroyed. He wants to regulate pollution, make the government play a bigger roll on toxic cleanup, and fix water pollution.
His running partner, William Weld, was an excellent governor.
Not only was Johnson himself well liked among the state that he was governor in, but his running partner, William Weld, was as well. Weld was the governor of Massachusetts from 1991 to 1997. When running for re-election in 1994, he won by a landslide, receiving 74 percent of the votes. During his time as governor, he cut taxes 21 times and never once increased them. At the beginning of his first term, the unemployment rate in Massachusetts was amongst one of the highest in the country, and by the end of his first term, it was one of the lowest.
He wants to logically fix the immigration problem.
One of the problems with living in one of the greatest places in the country is that everyone wants in. While building a wall seems like it could work, there are things such as ladders and Mexico did do very successfully in the poll jump, so logically, the idea is absolutely idiotic. His plans are to give allow immigrants to move to the United States, but give them only two years to find a job and successfully support themselves. He also plans on not letting everyone in, and to stay in the country is much harder, giving them a strict "one strike and you're out" deal. Any immigrant with suspicious/illegal activity will be deported, along with being supported by government funding.
