The 2016 presidential election has been the most insane election to date. Between social media and the 24-hour news coverage, the candidates haven't been able to say anything without sparking huge reactions from the public. Here are the most ridiculous moments from this presidential election that have led you to fear for the future of America and prepare for your move to Canada, or literally anywhere else:
1. The improbable candidate
By now you've probably forgotten about this and stored it in the back of your brain so you can pretend like it never happened. On April 20, 2015 (yep, that's 4/20), rapper Waka Flocka Flame released a campaign video announcing that he was running for president. His top concerns as leader of our nation? Legalizing marijuana, banning dogs in restaurants and prohibiting people with feet larger than size 13 from walking on the streets.
Luckily, this quickly fell through and we all went on like it never happened.
2. Ben Carson's eloquent explanation of the mechanics of prison
In an interview with CNN on March of 2015, Ben Carson caused a large reaction when asked if he thought being gay was a choice.
Carson said he absolutely believed that sexuality was a choice because "a lot of people who go into prison, go into prison straight, and when they come out they're gay."
3. Culinary lessons from Cruz
I wish this was a joke.
In August of 2015, a campaign video was released of Texas Senator and GOP hopeful, Ted Cruz, instructing viewers on how to make bacon with a machine gun.
This may be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever watched. Although, I do have to give him props for combining some of America's favorite things: guns and bacon.
4. Marco Rubio's middle school locker room insults
At a campaign rally in Roanoke, Virginia, Marco Rubio decided it was time to stand up against Trump in the strongest way possible; by insulting him like a 12-year-old boy.
Some of Rubio's arguments were:
"He doesn't sweat because his pores are clogged from the spray tan he uses."
"Donald is not gonna make America great, he's gonna make America orange."
"He's like 6'2", which is why I don't understand why his hands are the size of someone who's 5'2"... And you know what they say about men with small hands"
5. When Gary Johnson proved he isn't smarter than a 5th grader
During an appearance on MSNBC in September of 2016, Gary Johnson was asked what he would do about Aleppo if he became president. If you are a living breathing human, you would know that the crisis in Aleppo, Syria is at the top of U.S. Foreign Policy discussions, and if you are running for president, you should have an educated response on the matter. Gary Johnson's response?
"What is Aleppo?"
Yikes.
6. When Hillary Clinton tried to be the "cool mom"
We all know those moms who try to act young and cool for her daughter's friends. At a rally in Virginia, Hillary Clinton became "that mom" as she said, "I don't know who created Pokémon Go, but I want to figure out how to get them to have Pokémon Go to the polls."
7. Any time that Donald Trump has spoken
Trump isn't afraid to say what's on his mind, and many people admire him for that. However, more often than not, it tends to get him in a lot of trouble.
Here are a few examples of Trump's most embarrassing moments:
"I've said if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her."
"My fingers are long and beautiful, as, it has been well documented, are various other parts of my body."
"The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."
Yeah, not your best moments, Donald.
Overall, none of the candidates have seemed too promising this year. The only advice I can give is to thoroughly investigate the candidates and their values before heading to the polls. Or, you could just start looking for airline tickets to get out of here before things become even more of a mess. No one would blame you for choosing the latter.
