People always say “Daddy’s little girl” like it’s a bad thing, but who is a better best friend and ally than your dad? He is the best man in your life and always will be, and you are intimidated by him even though you can bat your eyes and get whatever you want (it's a talent). Here are just a few ways to tell that you might be Daddy’s little princess.
1. Your favorite movie is probably one you watched with him. Whether it’s a movie from your childhood like Star Wars or Indiana Jones, or a newer movie like American Sniper or The Avengers, you love all the movies (probably action) you and your dad have watched together. Which makes watching sappy, romantic movies like The Notebook with him really, really uncomfortable.
2. He probably coached one of your sports when you were a kid. For me, my dad was my basketball coach. Which made my lack of basketball skills even more embarrassing. From tee ball in the backyard to coaching the kindergarten soccer team, dad was always there for your childhood sports endeavors. That is, until he decided his efforts were better put towards your more talented, athletic sibling.
3. He always keeps you up to date on sports stats when you are too lazy to keep up with them yourself. He knows the scores, who your team is playing next, who the new recruits are, and even watches games he doesn’t care about. Every time you call home, he is probably watching some kind of sports game, and will probably ask if you went to the most recent game at school. Which you probably haven’t, since it interfered with your Thursday night plans, so you get the deets from him. Thanks, dad.
4. He always makes you proud in the Grove. From complimenting the awesome food in your tent, to being a good sport about taking copious amounts of selfies and pictures, he’s the best Grove buddy you could ask for. He even puts up with you dragging him to the fraternity tents, as long as he gets a beer
5. He taught you the best skills. At age five, he taught you his favorite sports team’s cheer. At 10, he taught you boys are stupid (thanks, Dad). At 15, he taught you to drive. And now, at 20-something, he is still teaching you boys are stupid, teaching you how to pay your bills, and teaching you that even from hours away, he is still there for you.
6. You always know he will give the best presents. As a kid, it was the latest toy that he kept secret from your mom, surprising you on Christmas with something amazing. Today, it’s the little things, like texts saying he put extra money in your account, or knowing exactly what kind of food to make when you come home for a weekend. Your dad’s a giver, and he loves to spoil you when he can.
7. It goes without saying, but he loves you. He gets excited when you make an A on a test he knows you studied hard for. He is protective when you tell him about the upcoming date party you are going to with this new guy from sociology class. He waits for your calls on the weekends and sends you funny pictures to brighten your busy week. Even when he is more stoic than affectionate, your Daddy will always love you.
