I'm sure everyone can agree with me when I say it would be phenomonal to scroll through Twitter or Facebook and not be burdened with over-opinionated posts about the election. I came to the realization that there are countless things I would rather do than think, talk or read about politics. I hate politics to begin with, so being surrounded by people who talk about it, and seeing commercials about it, and seeing it all over my social media... I'm over it.
Play with your pet.
Or any animal, it doesn't necessarily have to be your pet. Just don't go outside and try to play with a bear or something. Any fuzzy creature will make the cut, at least from my experience. Being in the presence of animals makes everyone feel better, if it doesn't then there are bigger problems. Even looking at pictures of animals can make you feel better. More often than not, when I'm upset or need to think, I'll go see my dog. He's always just as happy to see me as I am to see him, and it's honestly the best feeling knowing that.
Re-watch every season of 'Grey's Anatomy'.
It doesn't necessarily have to be 'Grey's Anatomy', but it's my favorite show so that's what I'm going with. You know you're a true 'Grey's Anatomy' enthusiast when you've binge-watched all twelve seasons on Netflix more than once (or twice); and if you're anything like me, you've watched all the seasons on Netflix three times, you cry when your favorite characters die or move to Switzerland (I still get sad when I think about McDreamy), and when you get to the end of the most recent season, you start back at one because you forget what happens. Though, if you're a true fan, you can speak the characters' lines for them.
Read a book.
When I mean read, I mean read anything that's not politically affiliated in any way. Magazines, I think everyone has had enough with politics at this point. I would much rather read one of the books I purchased because I think I'll read them, but, in reality, I just end up staring at them while they collect dust on my dresser.
Take a nap.
Not even specifically a nap, just any type of sleep you may be able to get at that point in time. Whether it's for twenty minutes or 10 hours, take it if you can get it. As a college student, finding time to sleep is the struggle, but I sleep whenever I can and wherever I can. That's one thing college is great for: making you adapt to be able to take a nap anywhere.
Take a shower.
Or a bath, it depends how you may be feeling that day. For me, when I want to isolate myself, I take a forty-five minute shower and blast my music as loud as possible. Taking a long, hot shower (or bath) helps me think, de-stress, and generally get away from the annoyance of everyday life. At this point, the annoyance I'm surrounded by is affiliated with politics in some way, shape or form.
Hangout with friends and family.
Spending time with friends who dislike politics as much as myself is one of my favorite things to do; we get together and talk about how much we hate talking about politics. When I want to get away from my friends, I go home. After I'm home for an hour and I'm getting annoyed, I go back to school. Balance is key.
