Yes, some people refer to Bryant Denny Stadium as “The Church of Nick Saban.” And yes, we wear crimson and yell too loud. Yes, we love football, and yes we are pretty good at it too. We hear the same things year and after year and here are the top worst things you can say to an Alabama Fan.
1. “What does Roll Tide even mean?”
I’m not going to lie to you, most fans probably won’t know what this means. But after one short Google search, you can become highly informed.
The slogan “Roll Tide” began during the 1948 game against Auburn hosted in Birmingham Alabama. The field was covered in mud and when Alabama and Auburn were shockingly tied, after Auburn being favorite to win-the players emerged covered in red mud and stormed the field like a Crimson Tide, thus gaining the name. From there, Roll Tide began as the catch slogan of the players emerging to the field- so to that: Roll Tide.
2. Referring to Our Colors as “Red and White”
Yes, our game day outfits go from black to white to tan and red. But the color is crimson — not maroon, not burgundy, not scarlet — but crimson. I mean we’re even called the crimson tide people.
3. "We Want Bama"
Be careful what you wish for, most teams who want this or bring signs to college game day trash talking Alabama normally end up regretting. Are you sure you want Alabama?
4. “Why do y’all wear that black and white pattern”
The pattern hounds tooth is famous for Alabama football because of one very famous coach-Paul W Bryant. Bryant coached at Alabama for 25 years and wore a hounds tooth hat to almost every game and quickly became a trend for Alabama fans. After winning six National Championships for the University, he became a well-respected man and a legend to the campus, people honor him by wearing this famous pattern and fashion piece.
5. “Alabama fans are so obnoxious”
Proud? Yes. Obnoxious? Maybe a little. We love our school and we love our team, but most of all we love football. We wear crimson and scream rammer jammer ever time we win, we love saying roll tide to anyone and everyone and we really like winning too. But hey, who doesn’t?
6. “I’m cheering for anyone but Alabama”
Everyone is tired of Alabama always winning, no matter what school you go to or what division you’re in, you probably have cheered for a team that has chanted things like “we want bama!” Seems like if you aren’t for the tide, you’re against it.
7. “I just really hope Alabama loses”
Again, if you aren’t for us, you’re against us and some people don’t like seeing Alabama win year after year. With 16 National Championships we sure know what we’re doing. So the more you tell us you hope we lose, the harder we cheer and the louder we scream “roll tide!”
