Fall is a great time of the year. The air gets colder, the leaves on the trees change to beautiful shades of red, yellow, and orange, and everyone is (hopefully) back in the swing of things at school. But there is more to fall than just pretty colors and colder air. Fall brings so many things that summer just couldn’t provide. Here are six reasons why fall is the best season.
1. All four major sports are playing.
Fall, specifically October, means that there are finally good sports to watch. Baseball is wrapping up, football is in full swing, and both the NHL and NBA start playing. I am a big Chicago Blackhawks fan, so the start of hockey season is very exciting for me! Fall also brings back college basketball, which I became hooked on when I came to Xavier last year. Anyone who is a sports fan always appreciates when multiple sports can be watched at one time.
2. Colder air = Cuddling
I am a huge fan of cuddling. Curling up under a nice, warm blanket with my boyfriend next to a fire or while watching a movie is my happy place. There’s just something about being so close to your significant other that makes the cold air a little more bearable. No significant other? No problem! Cuddling up with you mom, or even your dog, also has its perks. No shame in that.
3. Bonfires
Now that the air is colder, it’s perfect weather to build a bonfire. Staying up late, talking by the fire, and drinking hot apple cider is a must during fall. Great memories come from spending time around a fire with your closest friends. Bonfires also mean s’mores, so don’t forget the marshmallows and chocolate!
4. Apple Picking
When I was a little girl, my favorite thing to do in the fall was going to an orchard not far from my house called Honey Hill Farm and picking apples. My family would go out there and pick apples, then go to the farm shop and buy donuts. They also had a pumpkin patch and other fun activities for kids. That is one of the few memories I have as a child, but it was always so much fun! You can never be too old to go apple picking! Take a group of friends over the weekend and find an orchard to pick apples. It’s a great way to get away and a really fun fall activity!
5. Fall break
As I write this, I am on my way home on a Megabus for fall break. Not many schools have a break between the start of school and Thanksgiving, but I am lucky enough to have one! It is the first time I get to come home and see my family, and I always enjoy getting those few days off before midterms begin. It’s a great way to wind down and catch up with the people I miss while at school. If you have the privilege of having a break during this time, take full advantage of it. Catch up on sleep, watch even more Netflix, and spend quality time with your family. If you don’t have a break, it’s okay, keep going. Thanksgiving is only six and a half weeks away! You can do it!
6. Fall fashion
Fall clothes are my favorite type of clothes to wear. I love sweaters! I have so many that I couldn’t fit them all in my drawers at school. Something about wearing an oversized warm and fuzzy shirt brings me so much joy. They are so comfortable! It also means that we girls can hide the fact that we no longer have that bikini body we had a month ago. The Freshman 15 is not just a myth, and it’s not just for freshman, am I right? Also, boots are back, and who doesn’t love a cute pair of boots to go with those jeans you always wear because they accentuate certain parts of you? Don’t lie to me; we all have those kinds of jeans (or leggings). And a flannel shirt. #basic
