Yes, it's March, and daylight savings time has just messed up our already fragile sleeping patterns. Unfortunately, that doesn't exempt us from the possibility of yet another snowstorm, seeing as they have continued through April, in years past. There is nothing we can do to stop it, but we can try to make it a little more tolerable. Here are some must-haves for the next snowpocalypse, whenever it may decide to come.
1. A great roommate.
Whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, too much time alone is bound to give you some cabin fever. Thus, ensure you are with someone you would be happy to get stuck with, someone who would be happy to spend time with you and find fun things to do. If you don't live with that someone, go to some of your sisters' houses and crash for a little while. Snow days can get pretty dull, so company is an absolute must.
2. Netflix.
In the event of a snowstorm, you no longer need an excuse to watch an entire season of One Tree Hill. The stigma is gone, for the time being it is acceptable behavior. So go on and grab that by the horns while you still can. Make it your goal to watch as much of you queue as possible. And do it with a friend or roommate, because bonding over television is a blast.
3. Starbucks.
As I'm sure we've all learned once or twice, it's exhausting doing nothing, so quality caffeine is a must. If possible, pick some up before a big storm starts and save it. Even some coffee beans would be nice. Nothing goes better with a freezing cold day than a hot beverage. Try decaf in case you plan to nap, or a shot of expresso if you've got a paper to write or some reading to catch up on. It's a real lifesaver, either way.
4. Some crafts.
Always wanted a Pinterest life? Got tons of ideas for your little, but never had the time to make them? Head to Michael's next time the forecast calls for snow and pick up some crafting supplies. It might not turn out as perfect as you want, but homemade decorations make a great addition to any house and can also be wonderful gifts. Plus, crafts are a great stress reliever and you'll have lots of fun creating them.
5. An awesome playlist.
Sitting around all day gets pretty tiresome, so it might be in everyone's best interest to find some exercises to do at the house. While I cannot speak for everyone, my favorite in-home cardio is a nice dance party, and that requires some good music. Put your Pandora or Spotify to good use and create a playlist for your impending snow day. For the times you want to exercise, group some upbeat songs, along with some softer ones for when you want to work or rest. It can help keep you on a schedule, making for a happier and more productive snow day.
6. Chocolate.
What can I say? Comfort food makes everything better, and that goes double for chocolate. My policy is to keep some in the house at all times, a value instilled in me by my mother and grandmother. Truth be told, there are few things quite as relaxing as munching on some chocolate and watching the snow fall. Just be sure to make it last, as you never know how long it will be before you can go buy more. Snowstorms are a pain that way.
