With the new year upon us, it’s once again time to set goals for ourselves that often times feel impossible to achieve. The constant scrambling to keep our resolutions, especially in the cold winter months, takes its toll on the body and leads to a lack of motivation as well as self-pity. Rather than sitting around feeling sorry for yourself, try to dedicate time throughout your busy schedule to find your center. I have provided a list of simple tips and tricks to take care of yourself and melt those winter blues away.
1. Hydrate!!
I know everyone says this but it’s extremely important to drink plenty of water. It keeps your skin supple, detoxes your body, and boosts your mood, among other benefits. Leave a glass on your nightstand and drink it right when you wake up. Also, keep a bottle with you at all times and take sips frequently.
2. Stretch
Can’t make it to the gym? No problem, just stay home and stretch! Stretching is a great way to increase flexibility and blood flow, as well as release tension. After you get out of bed,, or as you feel needed, spend a few seconds or so rolling your shoulders, lunging, and/or leaning forward over your legs. Do whatever you feel is necessary; no one understands your body better than you.
3. Get A Good Night’s Sleep
I’m sure you noticed that I mentioned getting up out of bed a couple of times. It’s vital that you sleep for at least six hours each night. Doing so ensures you look and feel your best; it is called beauty sleep for a reason, how well you’re rested shows in your complexion. Sleeping also helps prevent weight gain, inflammation, and car accidents.
4. Tune Out
Listening to music while you work or study is proven to improve a person’s focus and decrease his or her feelings of anxiety and depression. Artists like Beyonce and Taylor Swift are sure to keep your spirits up and your motivation in check. If you’re having problems sleeping, listening to calming music such as classical can help put your mind at ease.
