5 Reasons The 'Captain America: Civil War' Trailer Geeked Us Out Beyond Measure
Superhero Hype

Though “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” is coming later this week, much of the geek world was rocked by Marvel’s new trailer for “Captain America: Civil War”. While the big talking point, of course, was the reveal of Spider-Man, there are many things that are exciting about Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster. Here are five things the new trailer got us excited about.

1. Marvel referencing past films.

The trailer shows the Avengers being briefed on new government regulations inspired by the destruction of various cities in recent years. The three locations shown, New York City, Washington D.C. and the fictional country Sokovia, are direct clips from the climaxes of three of Marvel’s past films, which further pushes the idea of a cohesive universe. Also, the person doing the briefing is General Thunderbolt Ross, who hasn’t been seen since 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk,” who’s story has been largely ignored by the rest of the films.

2. Black Panther.

The African hero (the first mainstream comic book hero) makes his big screen debut in this film before his own film arrives in 2018. His involvement and portrayal by “Get On Up” actor Chadwick Boseman was already exciting enough, but the trailer shows Panther in a big way. We first see him unmasked and in an explosion, which probably signifies his entrance into the story, but we then see him in his badass suit, which is apparently bulletproof, according to one of the shots.

3. Emotional weight.

Obviously, the film will divide Marvel’s characters into opposing teams, with Captain America and Iron Man as team captains. The trailer, however, shows the characters in many tense moments. We see Don Cheadle’s War Machine shot out of the sky and apparently dying (which I’m skeptical about since it was revealed in the trailer), and Iron Man in turn knocking the hell out of Cap. Tony’s pained cry at the sight of his friend being shot, also shows a level of emotion that we haven’t seen too much in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

4. Avenger vs. Avenger.

Though we knew the characters would be fighting each other, this new trailer has shown extremely exciting match-ups. We see Scarlet Witch overpowering Vision, and Black Panther chasing down the Winter Soldier, but perhaps the most exciting addition is the shot of Ant-Man riding on one of Hawkeye’s arrow. It was already extremely interesting to see how Ant-Man’s powers would fit into the rest of the team but it seems like Marvel’s got it covered.

5. Spider-Man.

Yes, as stated before, the largest point of excitement in the new trailer was its chill-inducing introduction of the hero. After a lengthy copyright battle, Spider-Man will finally be fighting alongside the rest of the Avengers, before appearing in his own film next year. While some fans criticized the character’s costume design or his first statement (“Hey everybody”), it’s undeniable that getting to see Spider-Man share the screen with Iron Man and Captain America will surely be one of the best aspects of the film.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
