There are many types of stressors within people's lives today. Some of which are caused from work, money issues, social problems or statuses, substance abuses, and or anything else that may cause you stress. The problem is that people don't know how to react when they feel like the stress is too much and that they are going to explode. Here are a few ways to try to calm yourself, not in the moment per say, but before and after the incident to keep your stressors at an all time low.
1. Yoga
Believe it or not, yoga is not just about breathing. Although the breathing exercises do help, yoga is about strengthening yourself inside and out. It may seem easy watching someone who has done yoga for many years, but yoga is difficult. There are several types of yoga: hot yoga— where you are in a heated room, hanging yoga, and many other types. Yoga helps one not only becoming stronger physically, but mentally. It is a good way to just clear your mind.
2. Working out/ Exercise
Believe it or not, hitting the gym is one of the best stress relievers out there. Lifting weights and/or running increases your heart rate. In the long run, it will lower your blood pressure and help with the stress in your life. Along with sweating out all your problems and toxins, literally, you start to look and feel better. Sometimes with the small acts of running or lifting, a physical change can better your mood and cause the other problems in your life that are stressing you out to not seem half as bad. So if you want to get in shape while release some tensions, hit the gym.
3. Meditation/ breathing exercises
Some may think this is all just in your head. Half of the time, the small things that annoy you or stress you out are actually a figment of your imagination. You create a situation to be much more strenuous or stressful than it actually is because it holds more importance to you. Breathing exercises, especially in the moment of being seriously stressed, comes in hand. Counting to 10 breathing in deeply and then exhaling out for 10 in a stressed out moment actually slows your heart rate a little bit. In the morning or nighttime, take 10 minutes out of your date to just sit and focus on your breathing. Clear your mind and only focus on right then and there, and the senses around you. You’ll slowly begin to feel more relaxed just from meditation and focusing on your breathing.
4. Music
Music is a huge stress release for many people. If you can’t sing, but want to, who cares? Sing your heart out if it makes you feel better. If you can’t dance but you feel the need to dance away your feelings, do so. Dance till your feet hurt and you can no longer stand, let the beat take you away. Blast music to take your mind off all your problems, and let the lyrics speak to your soul. Music has a way of making life so much better.
So whatever your stress may be, and if you feel like freaking out in that moment, take a step back. Reevaluate your life and see what you can change. Maybe focus on your breathing more, create a work out plan to hit the gym, do some yoga and let music take you away. Any of these are perfectly good solutions to help you with your stress and are healthy ways to let some things go.
