The College Spring Break Bucket List

Get your butts to the beach, we have memories to make.

The College Spring Break Bucket List

It's that time of year: classes seem longer, and the days are getting warmer. It's time to pack your bags and gather your group of friends and head to warmer places. To have the ultimate college spring break experience, follow these guidelines:

1. Befriend a group that isn’t from your school.

Lets be honest: anyone that goes on a big college spring break travels in large groups, often of multiple rooms. It will pay to have a different place to go before heading down to the beach parties, and if anything embarrassing happens you’ll most likely never see them again. Win win.

2. Never sleep in. Ever.

You’re on spring break, for heavens sake. Everyone knows that spring break in college isn’t for an actual break, but for some serious good times. So wake up early, jump on your friends beds, and get your suits on because its time to make some memories.

3. Make a stranger take an awesome picture.

Take the picture that you'll look at years from now and think: "yeah, that was an awesome day."

4. After you take that picture, Put the phone away.

You’re on spring break. No one is reading your tweets or tap-tapping your Instagrams so you might as well just put it away and enjoy your awesome life.

5. Spend a full day on the beach.

I’m talking morning til night. Strap on your swim suits at 8am and DO NOT LEAVE THAT BEACH until the sun sets at 7pm. It’ll be exhausting, but worth it. There’s always something to do on the beach.

6. Stay up for 24 hours.

If you really need help grasping this one, I’ll lay out a schedule for you:

8 a.m.: rise and shine, make some drinks, and get down to the pool

12 p.m.: eat something, then saunter yo'self to the beach

1 p.m. - 4 p.m.: completely lose track of time. Sometime in these hours you better take a dip in the ocean

5 p.m.: more food. Seriously, you have to nourish yourself.

6 p.m. - 8 p.m.: get ready and excited for the night, and tell stories of your day

8 p.m. - 8 a.m.: do anything you can think of. It'll be fun, I promise you.

7. Get a tattoo.

I mean, you really don’t have to. But at least get one of those cool airbrush tattoos that everyone wanted in middle school but never got. Its your time!

8. Attend a live concert.

Even if you’ve never ever heard of the band. There’s just something about live music that makes the weird spring break bar way cooler.

9. Soak it up.

College only comes once, and you are lucky enough to experience one of the most talked about weeks during anyone’s college experience. So, live it up. Put away the phone. Watch the sunrise and set (in one day). Break a rule or two. Meet new friends, and enjoy your time with the old. Do the things that only your friends will know about, and do the things that will be amazing stories for years to come.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
