25 Things Every "Basic" Girl Understands

A Starbucks frappuccino, Uggs, and an iPhone are probably the things that come to mind when you see the word “basic.” I personally love all of those things and more, but in the past few years, liking these things gets you labeled as “basic." I have embraced the term and if you can relate to any of the points in this list, then at least I know I’m not the only basic white girl out there.

1. Starbucks is so important to your ability to function in your day-to-day life.

2. You could happily survive off of Panera and Chipotle for the rest of your life.

3. You have no shame in following at least 20 fashion and makeup accounts on Instagram, Twitter and Youtube.

4. YouTube videos of makeup tutorials are basically life. They are mesmerizing.

5. Your Instagram basically consists of throwback Thursdays, OOTD’s, and selfie Sundays.

6. You have to have the perfect clever Instagram caption or you can’t post the picture.

7. You don't know if you love Disney movies or romantic comedies more. Chick flicks for the win.

8. If you're having a bad day, you lock yourself in your room with some ice cream and Netflix.

9. "Gossip Girl" is goals. Who doesn't want to live on the Upper East Side, wear their fabulous clothes, and have Dorota?

10. When you watch "Grey's Anatomy" you sometimes have the urge to go to med school… just so that you can work with McDreamy and McSteamy.

11. If you ever win the lottery you are probably going to spend all the money on Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin and a bunch of other designer stuff.

12. Paycheck? You mean money for new shoes.

13. Victoria’s Secret and PINK are the motherland. Half of your wardrobe is from there.

14. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show models are so perfect they make you question if they are really human.

15. You think having cute workout clothes will motivate you to work out more, but you really just want to eat pizza.

16. You have Sephora makeup taste with drugstore makeup budget.

17. Eyeshadow palettes are works of art. You almost feel bad using them because you don't want to mess up their beauty.

18. Your life would be made if you could actually manage to get your winged eyeliner to look perfect on the first try.

19. You can’t sleep at night knowing your eyebrows are not on point. Waxing, threading, and tweezing hurt, but beauty is pain.

20. You have a love/hate relationship with the Kardashians. You are jealous of them for being rich and famous for nothing, but their lives are so entertaining.

21. You love Justin Bieber. You haven't stopped loving him since his “One Time” days but now he’s back and better than ever.

22. You love reading John Green books and literally develop a crush on the boy characters.

23. You constantly dream of your wedding, especially the ring and the dress. You just can't wait to feel like a princess.

24. You can’t make up your mind about whether you want to live in New York City or Los Angeles. Decisions, decisions.

25. You really just want to be as successful as you can so when you’re older you can buy yourself the house, clothes, and everything else you want.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
