"Oh my gosh you went to an all girls high school?! That's so weird!" is normally the response you get when you tell someone that you went to an all girls, catholic high school. And normally you'll respond saying that it had such a positive and significant impact on so many different aspects of your life, and it's true. Being surrounded by women for some of the most influential years of your life teaches you how to become a strong, independent, confident woman.
1. No shave November is an actual thing (except it's more like no shave winter).
2. Religion classes are either the best or worst part of the day.
3. Wearing makeup is frowned upon.
4. Brushing your hair is also frowned upon.
5. If you are wearing makeup/don't have your hair in a messy bun, it's assumed that you have a date after school.
6. All girls sporting events are lit. Don't hate.
7. You go all out during spirit week and other pep assemblies.
8. Uniforms are the best thing that's ever happened to you.
9. You secretly stare at the freshmen with ridiculously short shirts (like honey, there's no boys here, who are you trying to impress?).
10. It takes you less than 10 minutes to leave the house.
11. Having mass during the school day was the greatest thing that happened because it made all classes shorter.
12. Everyone knows everyone, even if you've never actually met. It's a closely knit community of some pretty great people.
13. "I'm going to Starbucks, want anything?" Is something you hear on the daily.
14. Getting a jugs ruined your day (Jug stands for "justice under God" so basically a Catholic school's way of saying "detention").
15. Sleeping in the library - or any other random place around the school isn't uncommon.
16. Seeing people randomly crying also isn't uncommon (having four tests in one day can get to you sometimes, it happens).
17. You eat. A lot.
18. You learn to live the fourth.
19. Dances were a big deal because you got to see everyone look like a normal human being instead of a sleep deprived, pubescent 14-year-old.
20. You learn that it's socially acceptable to pick your wedgies in public.
21. When you go to college, you have to buy an entirely new wardrobe that doesn't consist of t-shirts and sweatpants - your usual dress-down day apparel.
22. Your teachers are the reason you go back and visit even after you've graduated. They did more than just teach literature and science, they show you how to make a difference in the lives of others because they made a difference in your life.
23. You meet some of your bridesmaids and forever friends. They're there for you when you need to cram for your World Religions quiz. They proofread your Major American Authors paper, and cheer for you when you get the grade you hoped for. You come into high school as friends, but leave as sisters.
