As kids, we tend to follow in the footsteps of those around us. If our brother or sister is scared of something, we are scared of it too. If our friends tell us scary stories, those imaginary scenarios become our own real life fears. Some may be completely irrational and something that would never happen in a million years, but that doesn't change the fact that it scares us. Irrational fears are difficult to overcome because in many instances they produce an impossible scenario, leaving no room for potential acceptance. You shouldn't be embarrassed or ashamed of your irrational fears because let's face it, we all have them.
1. The dark
Walking into a dark room is basically like walking into a death trap...immediately take out your flashlight and guide yourself to safely.
2. Monsters under your bed
Before your parents left your room at night, you would always make them check under your bed for monsters.
3. Clowns
Regardless of how "friendly" they claim to be, what type of balloon animals they can make, or their ability to ride a unicycle, CLOWNS ARE ALWAYS SCARY.
4. Dolls
The fear of dolls coming to life and killing you will always be in the back of your mind, regardless of how old you are.
5. Arms or legs hanging off of the bed
You always make make sure that your entire body is on the bed with the fear of your foot hanging off and having a demon drag you to hell.
6. Costumes
Seeing a giant gorilla, carrot, or hot dog running towards you in hopes that you will buy their product is terrifying and something that no one should experience.
7. Bugs
The thought of a spider laying eggs in your ear is one that will never disappear. All bugs must die.
8. Thunderstorms
Whether it's the sound of thunder or the brightness of lightening, thunderstorms are scary and always call for a cuddle buddy.
9. Balloons
A family outing to the Thanksgiving Day Parade turns into your worst nightmare when you see hundreds of gigantic balloons ready to smother you with their largeness.
10. Living things in your toilet
Every time you go to use the bathroom, you check the toilet to make sure no bugs or sewer friends have joined you.
11. Something hiding in your closet
Don't ever leave your closet door open because you never know what can make its way in there to surprise you at night.
12. Birds
Wherever there is one bird, there is definitely twenty more. Birds travel in packs and seem to attack innocent humans whenever possible.
13. Sidewalk grates
You never know where these lead, but you know it's probably not good. Why walk on them when there is a perfectly usable sidewalk right next to it? It's just a bad idea.
14. Someone hiding behind your shower curtain
Face it, we all check behind the shower curtain in the bathroom to make sure someone isn't hiding behind it waiting to kill us.
15. Bridges
Going over a bridge and thinking it is going to crumble underneath you and you plummet into the ocean...even though you know that it is very unlikely.
Which leads right into the next fear...
16. The ocean
The ocean is home to the unknown and you definitely don't want to be the person who finds that out.
17. Elevators
People who make the elevator shake are the worse kind of people. Also, you assume you are stuck in there for life if the door doesn't open immediately.
18. Ghosts
Ghosts are real...and I'm not talking about the white sheets "floating" around on Halloween.
19. Airplanes
The paranoia usually sets in right after the safety video is shown explaining how to safely jump out of the plane in the case of an emergency.
20. Sharks in the pool
You never went into the deep end in the pool in fear of it suddenly turning into the ocean.
