20 Facts You Know To Be True If You Grew Up In Connecticut

If you grew up in Connecticut you know that it's a small state where basically everybody knows everybody. You can travel across the entire state in two hours. It's a quaint little state that you grew up loving, and sometimes hating. But as the years go on and you meet people from various parts of the country and the world, you know that Connecticut is surely one of a kind. Here are a few things you know to be true if you grew up living in Connecticut:

1. You grew up loving Boston just as much as NYC.

2. And because of this, your town is half Red Sox fans and half Yankees fans.

3. As a kid, class field trips included going to Mystic Seaport.

Which was pretty boring, let's be honest.

4. As a kid you went to the Mystic Aquarium, which you still love as an adult.

You always dreamed of getting to feed the beluga whales but knew it costed a pretty penny.

5. The UConn Huskies are practically your state's NBA team.

You own at least one UConn hoodie, maybe a t-shirt, a mug, or two.

6. You grew up on trips to Lake Compounce.

It's not as big as Six Flags, but it was closer and felt like home.

7. You go to Connecticut beaches if you have to, but you know Rhode Island has the best beaches that are worth the drive.

Day trip to Misquamicut? Yes Please!

8. You have an unhealthy obsession for Dunkin Donuts.

There's practically a Dunkin' in every town.

9. You know that Frank Pepe's has the best pizza (sorry New York).

New Yorkers will fight me on this but according to CBS New York, it's The Best Pizza in America.

10. Summer isn't summer without farm-fresh ice cream.

Once you have had Rich Farm ice cream, nothing in the world will ever compare. The best day of your life is when they open for the season and the saddest day of your life is when they close.

11. You feel the need to own Vineyard Vines or a pair of Sperrys.

While you may only own one of these, or maybe neither, you know Connecticut is full of people dressed in these preppy brands.

12. You know that only in New England can it be snowing then sunny all in the same day.

Snow in October or April doesn't surprise you anymore.

13. But despite this, you know that the seasons are the most beautiful in Connecticut.

Nothing compares to Fall in Connecticut.

14. You can't go out in public in your town without seeing someone you know.

Connecticut is full of small towns, which means dodging those people you went to high school with at the grocery store.

15. You couldn't wait to be 21 so you could go to Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods.

16. You've gone to at least one Rock Cats game.

"Rock Cats baseball rocks! These cats rock!"

17. You know what a package store is.

Aka the "packy."

18. You know what a grinder is.

Sub, hero, hoagie, wedge, whatever you call it. Here it's called a grinder. And Nardelli's has the best ones.

19. You live within 20 minutes of a prep school.

20. You have pride for your little state.

It may be small, but you know that you wouldn't change it for anything. No matter where you end up, you'll always call Connecticut home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
