19 Things I Wish I Knew How To Do At 19

A 19-year-old's sort-of bucket list.

There are some days when I feel like being a 19-year-old is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. Other days I just feel young; that I shouldn't be old enough to live in a state that my parents don't live in. I know that I want my life to be an adventure, but my life right now consists of exam after quiz after homework assignment, the never-ending cycle of being a college student. Here are 19 things I wish I knew how to do at 19--things that might make me live more on the edge or make me a better person in general.

1. Change a tire

This would have come in handy the two times I've had problems with flat tires this year. God bless the humans who changed my tire for me!

2. Do a push-up

In elementary school, middle school, and high school, I got zero points on all of my push-up tests in PE class. I'm not even in bad shape! I just do not know how to do one.

3. Drink black coffee

This would save me a lot of money and calories at Starbucks.

4. Juggle

5. Drive stick shift

In an emergency situation it would most definitely come in handy.

6. Play at least one impressive song on the piano

I'm now regretting quitting piano after third grade.

7. Water ski

8. Draw something other than snails and trees

The only doodles I can do are snails and trees. I don't have much to work with.

9. Not procrastinate

I was going to write something about this, I'll just do it later.

10. Talk to people who intimidate me

11. Speak up even if my answer might be wrong

It can be so embarrassing to give the incorrect answer in front of classmates, but it's always good to give it a shot.

12. Run for long periods of time

After training to run the Turkey Trot last November, I thought running might be my thing. Running in a turkey costume changed my mind about that; running is not meant for me or turkey costumes.

13. Practice self-control at Target

14. Latte art

Okay, this would be a great party trick.

15. Use a microscope correctly

I'm in a biology class this semester. Every time we get out the microscopes, a sense of dread falls upon me. I can never find what I'm supposed to be looking for on the slides and I can never look into the microscope without getting a headache. I like the class, though.

16. Understand politics

With the election coming up, it would be a good time to understand exactly what the candidates are talking about.

17. Write a novel

18. Not sunburn

I am very pale and it seems as though no matter how much sunscreen I apply or how often I am in the shade opposed to the sunlight, I will get sunburned no matter what.

19. Be more grateful

It is very easy to so get caught up in school and other activities that you forget to stop for a second and realize how lucky you are.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
