When many current Marquette students hear the name Al McGuire, they associate it with the building on the corner of 12th and Wells, unaware of his contributions to Marquette and the sports world. McGuire played in the NBA for a few years out of college, and then switched over to coaching college basketball in 1955, helping Marquette win a National Championship in 1977. McGuire's work as a basketball player, coach, and television broadcaster earned him a spot in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992. What made him especially memorable, however, was his colorful personality and positive outlook on life.
