It's about that time. People right and left are creating new years resolutions to better themselves starting in 2017. I think that this can be great. A fresh start, a new beginning, a sudden found motivation. But these resolutions can also be very unrealistic. It is extremely common for most people to give up on their resolution within the month of january itself, after realizing what they have set themselves up for. Losing forty pounds in one month is not only impractical but also unhealthy. So if you want to set a resolution for this year, my question is, why not start small and work your way up? Achieving your goals can be incredibly rewarding, and inspire you to push yourself even further, so starting small and working your way up can be the ticket to finally achieving that new years resolution. With that being said, here are a few realistic resolutions for 2017:

1. Drink more water.

Good for your skin. Good for your health. Can help boost your energy.

2. Learn a new skill.

This could be learning to sew or learning to kick-box, the choice is yours.

3. Learn a new language (or even a couple of phrases).

This is a definite challenge but knowing multiple languages can be extremely useful!

4. Cook at home more often.

This saves money and tests your creative side.

5. Save every $5 bill you receive.

Think about how fast this could add up. It is a fast and easy way to save up for something awesome.

6. Travel more.

Whether this is across the world or across the state, traveling can create great memories and also help you step out of your comfort zone.

7. Say "thank you" more often.

You would think this wouldn't have to be a resolution, but it's crazy to think about how often we forget to say thank you, even for little things.

8. Cut out soda.

If you are a soda drinker, you will be amazed at the results after cutting it out, and how soon you end up not craving it.

9. Dedicate time each week to read.

Reading is a great time to be at peace and relax while also giving your brain a workout.

10. Get more sleep!!!

This can boost your immune system, your mood, and your activity level. It affects more than you would think.

11. Get rid of old clothes.

Why waste closet space on clothes you haven't worn for 4 years?

12. Put away your phone when socializing.

Not only is it rude to be staring at your phone while out to lunch with someone, but it also takes away from the experience of actually visiting with them.

13. Volunteer somewhere.

Give back to the community by volunteering at a soup kitchen or even helping a family friend or neighbor with a big task.

14. Quit complaining.

Why not start the new year with positivity?

15. Spend more time/ stay in better contact with family.

If you live away from home or don't spend a lot of time with your family, make it a priority to call first or stop by for a visit every once in a while.

16. Go out more often.

Instead of binge watching Netflix shows every weekend, why not go on a new hike with friends, or invite people over to play Cards Against Humanity?

17. Be your biggest fan.

We often create obstacles within ourselves, so choosing to override the negative thinking and focus on the positive can really change your attitude.

Make 2017 a great year everyone. You can do it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
