15 Undeniable Signs You're From Indiana

Being born and raised in the great state of Indiana has many perks and privileges just like anywhere else. However, for those who grew up everywhere else there are some tell tale signs of all the people who grew up in Indiana. Here are just 15 of the many undeniable signs that you are from Indiana.

1. The constant changing of the weather on a day to day basis doesn't bother you.

You are not even slightly surprised when you wake up one day and it is sunny and 75 then waking up the next day to rainy and 40 degrees out. Don't like the weather, just give it a day or two.

2. You have an innate hatred for the New England Patriots.

Being raised as a huge Indianapolis Colts fan has been matched by nothing more then your equal hatred for the New England Patriots as well as Tom Brady. Of course, this has been fueled even more by the disappointing results as of the past few seasons. But I mean, I'm not pointing fingers at under inflated footballs or anything.

3. You know driving anywhere in the state requires a roadside view of corn fields.

We've all been there. You're taking a casual drive LITERALLY anywhere in the state and BAM... corn as far as the eye can see. And we are all worn down about the never-ending jokes about corn. Yes, we have heard that one before, stop telling it.

4. You truly know what it means to be in Small Town, USA.

With small towns across the state ranging from Angola to Sullivan, Indiana residents truly know the small town feeling. The old dirt roads and knowing everyone in town Justin Moore described sure seem pretty relatable now.

5. You will pick sides between IU and Purdue... You will.

Regardless of where you grew up in Indiana, the mere fact that you live here means you were either a Hoo-Hoo-Hoo Hoosier or a Boiler-Down Boilermaker. Every house hold held their alliance whether you choose to admit it or not.

6. A night out in Indy was a big deal.

Whether it was going to a sporting event with all your friends or dinner and a country concert with that special someone, nothing could beat a rare trip to the city with the people you care most about.

7. Trains have become a normal part of your daily routine.

The Crossroads of America has made itself known in your life. Getting stopped by a train anytime of the day really doesn't surprise you anymore and is just a normal occurence, this being especially true in Terre Haute.

8. You have a very strong dislike for drivers from Illinois.

"Dude, that guy just cut you off?!" "Yeah, he has Illinois plates, go figure." If this was a common conversation you had while driving, odds are you're from Indiana. Enough said.

9. The awareness that basketball is the most popular sport in the state.

From the movie Hoosiers to the Indianapolis Pacers to high school hoops, basketball is in the blood of Indiana. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't love basketball here? Not to mention that Indiana is home to many prestigious college basketball schools including IU, Purdue, Notre Dame, Butler, and your very own Indiana State Sycamores.

10. Deep down, there is still some love for Peyton Manning.

The heartbreak was real when the Colts let go of Ole' Peyton. However, despite Manning being on the Broncos roster, there is still love for him deep down. He built the house in Indy and every year, one of the most popular games is getting to see Peyton come home.

11. You are immensely proud of the Indy 500, despite never watching racing.

The Indy 500 is one of the most popular races in the world each year, and its held in none other then Indiana. Odds are, you're extremely proud of this fact, despite possibly having never even seen a race. To be honest, most just make it to the snake pit and we all know when that happens, everything else is a blur. Despite this, toting one of earth's most elite races is something to brag about.

12. You know nothing beats the annual county fair.

Every summer one of the things you look forward to the most is the local county fair. From 4-H animals as far as the eye can see, to rides where you really aren't sure about how safe they are, who can resist the fair? And lets not forget the deep fried twinkies and lemon shake ups. Obvious reasons Indiana does foods right.

13. There's nothing quite like tailgating on a cool fall afternoon.

Lets face it, you know how to tailgate. Those who hail from Indiana have it in their blood. There's nothing quite like having the grill out and enjoying a few drinks while trying to balance that with arguably the most intense game of cornhole of your life.

14. You either cheer, or participate for a bike race of some sort.

Oddly enough, cycling is pretty popular in Indiana. There are different races across campuses around the state. The famed Little 500 is hosted in Bloomington, the Trike and Tandem find their home in Terre Haute, and multiple others are held elsewhere as well. Despite where you may attend school, you're bound to cheer for one of these races.

15. For no particular reason, you really truly dislike the state of Kentucky.

Why do I hate Kentucky? I honestly can't tell you. But I, just like many others from Indiana do not like Kentucky. There are rivalries littered across the state lines, but basketball remains the strongest. Despite all these, it is just more then likely that if you walk up to a resident of Indiana, and ask them what they truly think of Kentucky, they will say they don't like it. Trust me, give it a try.

If you found that a lot of these points applied to you, I'm willing to bet that you come from the great old state of Indiana. What could be better, right? I love my state and am extremely proud of it and everything associated with it. If you aren't from Indiana, I'm not saying you can't be proud of your state too. Just remember, there's nothing quite like someone from Indiana.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
