Growing up, we all pretended to be princesses or princes in a fantasy world (we can thank Disney for this). But let's face it, we know that's not how it works. I'm not going to be woken up by a kiss from a prince, a guy isn't going to look for me if I lost my shoe on a staircase, and I definitely don't have an angelic singing voice that would make a guy fall in love with me. But we all can dream, can't we?
I have been blinded by guys that I thought liked me but ended up dropping me just like that. But in a few weeks or months, I would be getting to know another guy and I was ready to take the plunge again.
That's the thing about being a hopeless romantic; no matter how many times you've been crushed, you will recover just for it to happen again because you have faith that one day it will all fall into place.
If you're anything like me, despite all of the disappointments with guys and relationships, you still have hope. We aren't sad or jaded; we are hopeless romantics.
1. We've seen and cried at every Nicholas Sparks movie. And let's be honest, we've watched them all more than three times.
2. We might be the most positive person in our friend groups because we believe in hope and that fate can make wonderful things happen. Never lose this trait.
3. We have come to realize that those fairy-tales we grew up with are far-fetched and inaccurate, but when we watch Disney movies we still tear up. Every. Single. Time.
4. We encourage all our friends to get in relationships because we love seeing them happy even though our own love life is non-existent.
5. We download dating apps like Tinder and Bumble with our friends for sh*ts and giggles, but there's a little part of us that secretly hopes maybe we'll find someone. The next Tinder success story!
6. We bounce back fast. We know the cycle of falling for a guy and then it not working out. We know what to expect but it doesn't stop us. We get hit with the punches, but recover only so we can do it all over again.
7. Chivalry will never be dead in our book. Not talking about a white horse and carriage ride here, but you picture your first date to be magical and every one after that.
8. We're not afraid to let people in. We are open with people because we want them to like us. We like to be real with people.
9. We wear our hearts on our sleeve. There comes a point where we feel defeated and want to let loose. Nothing can stop us from having a little too much fun once in a while, but our heart always puts us back on track.
10. When one of our friends gets into a relationship, we become more excited about it than they are because we can start living vicariously through them. Nothing makes us say "awww" like seeing happy couples.
11. We are always thinking ahead. We think of the possibilities or the "what ifs". We have high hopes of what could happen next.
12. We have our whole wedding planned out on a secret Pinterest board. The whole facade has been building in our minds for years. This is one of the most important days of our life!
13. We're passionate. We know what we want, and will fight for the things we love. This transpires into our friendships because we would do anything for them just like we would do for our partner.
14. Our friends laugh and make fun of us every time we say something like, "I think I like this guy" because it's not the first time and certainly not the last.
15. "Cynical" isn't in our vocabulary. Even thought we've been let down countless times, we pick ourselves up and never think that love is a curse.
To all my hopeless romantics, don't give up. Love is crazy and unexpected. We are some of the most caring, optimistic, and loving people when the right person lets us in. There are millions of bad apples we have to go through to find the one. But it's worth it. Don't stop believing in true love and know that one day you will find your Prince Charming. Let your Pinterest board come to life, and live happily ever after.
