14 Things Only Atlantans Will Understand

It takes an Atlantan native to translate this to a non-Atlantan.

14 Things Only Atlantans Will Understand

In Atlanta, life is different. It is an almost sharp contrast to the rest of the world. Yet as common as people would think these words are, they are a new language to Atlantans. Each having their own meaning and their own reason behind it. So non-Atlantans, sit down and learn about our weird and crazy world.

1. OTP vs. ITP:

An average person would guess outside the Perimeter and inside the Perimeter a small difference. However, it is actually outside the Perimeter vs inside the Perimeter! A huge difference! It is about the difference between North Korea and South Korea!

2. The Varsity:

A fast food chain restaurant that serves hot dogs and hamburgers. For us, it is whatta have whatta have! An amazing place that shortens your life span by 30 plus years, but totally worth it for those greasy fries and hot dog

3. Rush Hour:

A time of day when traffic gets congested and the highway gets backed up. Atlantans know it is 24/7 on 85 and 75, regardless of the time of day. There is always traffic. When it turns 2:00 P.M. or 3:00 P.M., you better sit your butt back down, because you're not going anywhere until 7:00 P.M.

4. Atlanta Sports Teams

Atlanta Hawks, Falcons, and the Braves, all major league teams. However, Atlantans know they always lead to their hopes getting raised for one season only to come crashing down by a close and bitter loss in the playoffs. This then leads to 3-4 seasons being the worst in the franchise history.

5. Buckhead

A well established neighborhood. Yet for Atlantans, it is a very wealthy neighborhood that you drive through trying not to wreck your car while you're too busy staring at the mansions.

6. The Beltline

A biking and walking trail through the city. Atlantans know it is a magical trail that leads through midtown Atlanta, and that draws hipsters faster than a moth to light. Also, it has very cool graffiti and amazing over-packed markets.

7. Little Five Points

A place with small quaint shops. Don't go there alone! A place where you can get heckled at, begged, and asked if you want to smoke crack so fast that you can't even grab your pepper spray. Yet there are so many cool shops and artwork that might be worth the risk

8. Marta

An Atlanta Metro system that takes you all over the city. A pointless metro system that only takes you in four directions, and only one direction makes sense, to the airport.

9. Snow

When rain freezes and floats down to the Earth. Atlantans know it is something that causes everyone in the city to flee to the streets, cause huge amounts of traffic, and even the slightest chance will shut down the city. Seriously, the thought of snow causes the state to declare a State of Emergency.

10. Pepsi

A popular soda drink. Something that should be poured out immediately, and if a friend offers it to you, question your friendship! Also, no, it's not the same thing as Coke.

11. Chick-fil-A

A place that serves the original chicken sandwich. Heaven, and if it was an Atlantan's last meal in prison, Chick-fil-A is what they would request

12. Peachtree

A tree that grows peaches. A street that will take you to Narnia and back. Literally it will take you everywhere, and there are so many streets named Peachtree.

13. White Water

A fun water park for family enjoyment. A place that you go to scream and get sun-burned. And two months later, you have to go to the doctor because of a questionable infection you may have gotten.

14. Music Midtown

An awesome music festival with big names and acts. Probably the first place you died because of the heat and drinking too much. Your phone also probably died, and you got lost, but it is so worth it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
