Are you feeling unmotivated each day? Do you need to be more productive, but you're too overwhelmed and don't know where to begin? We've all been there.

Being productive on a regular basis is an art that does not come naturally. It's difficult, but extremely rewarding. It takes determination and constant mindfulness. If you are ready to get back on track and make the most of each and every day, here are 13 ways to do just that:

1. Wake up a half-hour early.

Sleeping in is one of life's greatest luxuries, but a productive day does not typically begin at 1 p.m. Instead, try waking up at 8 a.m. and set your alarm a half-hour before that. Use this extra time to complete your morning necessities so that you're ready and on time for your day.

2. Make your bed.

Remember when your parents hounded you about making your bed every morning? As mundane and stupid as this task seemed, it's actually a productive way start your day. Not only will your room look and feel cleaner, but it'll also make you feel like you've already completed a task first thing in the morning! Not to mention, it prevents you from napping throughout the day.

3. Make a to-do list and actually do the things you put on it.

It's one thing to write a to-do list, and another to actually follow it. One of the big problems with to-do lists is that we make them 1) too long, 2) too complicated and 3) unattainable. Instead, make a simple list with a few important tasks that can and will be completed during the day. Remember, it's not considered a to-do list unless you actually attempt to do what is on it.

4. Listen to TedTalks or an audio book while driving.

Instead of your favorite Spotify playlist, try opting for an interesting TedTalk or a self-help audio book while driving. This will make your day more positive, and in turn, seem that much more productive. You will feel more ready than ever to take on anything the day has in store.

5. Set aside time to work on a long-term project.

We often push back large projects as they approach closer and closer to their deadlines. Unfortunately, procrastination is a very easy — but bad — habit to pick up when you've got a busy life. With this in mind, it's a great idea to work on the project a little bit everyday, even if it's just for an hour. Not only will this make you feel more accomplished, but more importantly, you'll thank yourself in the long run.

6. Clean up your room or work area.

Nothing hinders productivity quite like a messy, cluttered environment. Take some time to clean up your area. Fun? No. Necessary? Yes. This is a task to check off your to-do list and it'll make the rest of the list seem more attainable. You will feel relieved and less stressed by doing this so it's a win-win, really.

7. Eat small, nutritious meals throughout the day.

As quick and easy picking up fast food is, unhealthy foods do little to fuel you for a productive day. On the other hand, do not go all day without consuming food! This is a serious no-no. Instead, eat small, nutritious meals throughout the day to keep your focus strong and your energy boosted. Examples include fruits, such as bananas and blueberries, and vegetables, such as avocado and spinach. Click here to see a full list of foods that will help with productivity and energy.

8. Limit time spent on your phone/laptop/watching TV.

Spending a lot of time on social media or watching Netflix is a sure way to waste your day. If you are trying to be more productive, it is crucial that you limit how much time is spent on these activities. Instead, use these activities as rewards at the end of the day (see No. 12).

9. Exercise.

Engaging in just an hour of physical activity each day is known to not only boost self-esteem, but instantly affect your energy and mood. Go to the gym, ride your bike around the block, or jog around your local park. Pick your favorite way to exercise and make that time to move your body. This will not only act as a break from tasks, but it will also act as a stress reliever.

10. Have a positive attitude.

To be productive, you must have a positive attitude. Believe that you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and know that you did as much as you could if your day does not turn out perfect. Productivity does not exist without positivity, so try your best to be positive right from the moment you wake up.

11. Plan for tomorrow.

Consistency is key. Take time before ending your day to plan ahead. What needs to be done tomorrow? What was on your to-do list that didn't get completed? Jot down a tentative schedule for the next day so that you can start all over tomorrow. Productivity is not one day of getting stuff done, then five days getting nothing done. Stay on top of things by planning each day and figuring out just how you will spend your time.

12. Make time at the end of the day to reward yourself.

A long, productive day deserves a reward. As your day ends, make sure to do something you enjoy. Read a book, watch a movie or take a relaxing bath. This will give you time to reflect on your day and wind down. It really will make your task-filled day feel worth it.

13. Get to bed early.

If you plan to keep up with a productive lifestyle, it is crucial you get plenty of shut eye. Sleep will refresh and rejuvenate you and it'll make another busy, productive day possible. Since you started your day early, you also need to end it early with some well-deserved rest.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
