I can honestly say I had never seen the sun rise or for that matter even woke up to my alarm clock before 7 a.m. a few years back. Myself and the morning time were a conflicting mix and sleep always took precedence. Luckily, something changed for me and I began to question, why do I want to sleep my days away? Well, I learned that I actually don’t. Here are 12 reasons that I discovered why being a morning person is the absolute best:
1. First and foremost, I wanted to accomplish something I had not yet. That was watch a beautiful sunrise. Getting up before or with the sun sets a wonderful tone for your day.
2. Waking up energized is incredible. I never imagined that waking up early could allow my body and mind to feel so refreshed and eager to take on the day.
3. Which then gives you the energy to workout or go for a run in the early morning. What? Create endorphins so early in the morning? Yes, it too is an amazing feeling! Forget forcing yourself to do a half-ass workout later that night after your long work day. Get up and get it done early.
4. You get to wake up and literally smell the coffee brewing and genuinely enjoy it. You let it fill your home and then take your time to sip it down nice and slowly. I’d take this over rushing around in the morning, which leads to 89% of the time forgetting to even press the start button on your coffee pot.
5. Following your morning coffee, you get to make a delicious, nutritional breakfast. You learn to appreciate cooking your own meals more instead of making a quick stop at Dunkin’ Donuts for your bagel with cream cheese.
6. You are taking a huge advantage of a number of extra hours that so many other people are snoozing away. You take that time for you. You learn about yourself. No distracting traffic noises or searching social media. Your time up and alone is uncovering.
7. That leads to truly enjoying these peaceful moments. The world is a little extra quiet in the early morning hours of the day. Look at your surroundings and take them in. Be content and grateful. It’s a feeling that you understand only when you experience it.
8. Use this time to get things marked off your to-do lists. There have been many times I have cleaned the house or went grocery shopping early in the morning. You gain a feeling of accomplishment.
9. When you’re a morning person, you naturally begin to be more organized and prepared. You basically have to be because you need to find something productive to do with your extra free time that you’ve gained!
10. A big benefit of arising so early is that when it comes for bedtime, you have NO problem falling asleep. You’ve already been up for so long and you can’t until your head hits the pillow to shut your eyes so you can get up and do it all over again. No insomnia issues here.
11. You put in extra effort into your daily outfits. Once again, the scrambling around with no idea what’s going on is unnecessary. You have the time to work with what ya got. You get to leisurely decide what you’ll wear and what will make you feel your personal best!
12. You feel accomplished and proud. By noon, you have done so much that most people wouldn’t believe you if you told them. It’s ok, you know what you did.
The morning time is seriously an underrated time of the day. It holds so much value and possibilities, but most people aren’t willing to wake up early and take advantage of it. Truthfully, I’m okay with it. Just as with everything else in this world, once everyone starts doing it, it’s not as cool anymore. So for now, I’ll keep waking up with the sun and starting my day gradually, productively and positively.
