11 Things To Think About Instead Of The Election

If you're over hearing about and thinking about the election, here are some things that'll give your mind a break.

11 Things To Think About Instead Of The Election
GQ Magazine

I guarantee that, right off the bat, the title of this article made some people angry. Because people are very invested in this election. We want educated people voting. We want people voting who have done a LOT of thinking about this election, the candidates, their positions on issues, and ultimately what they think is the best vote for our country. So, the idea of thinking about other things instead of the election--what, with the election so soon and all--probably has already upset people. The rest of this article isn't going to help my case either. But hear me clearly right now and in the next few sentences, because I'm going to explain myself. I don't believe any of these things are necessarily more important than the election. Let me say that again, in case you didn't catch it and want to get upset over this article and yell at me in the comments...I don't believe any of these things are necessarily more important than the election!!! And I 100% think people need to think about the election.

However, if your life is anything like mine, your social media has exploded with negativity from both sides. Your friends are arguing. You see the name-calling. The debates seem pointless. You are angry. You are sad. You are overwhelmed. You are surrounded by chaos. That's hard on the brain and thought-life. So take a break and think about something else instead--something better.

1. Pixar movies.

Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, Cars, Inside Out...the list goes on and on. Happy stuff.

2. The sky.

Ever thought about how we're all under the same sky? Every human on this earth is under the same sky that ranges from a clear blue to a starry scene to a painting of a sunset. That's pretty darn cool.

3. Music.

Think about music while you listen to music. Or play music. Whatever floats your boat.

4. Jim and Pam.

Who doesn't love their beautiful love story? How could one NOT love their beautiful love story?

5. Leslie Knope.

Gotta love those fictional characters, man. Beware that thinking about our beloved Ms. Knope could potentially bring thoughts back to the election and the issues that we face. But still. Vote Knope 2016.

6. Hamilton.

This one also could very well bring up the election, but WOW THOSE LYRICS. Listen, learn, and weep. It's good stuff.

7. Thanksgiving.

It's so soon. In the midst of the election chaos, let's all remember that one of the best holidays is coming up. Good food, family, and days without class. Can't get much better than that.

8. Christmas.

If we're going to talk holidays, we can't leave this one out. It's just a little over month after the election anyways--soon enough. And it's just...well...Christmas.

9. Traveling.

Whether that be in the U.S. or across the globe--think about where you'd like to someday go.

10. Pizza.

Food is always a good choice. Pizza is always a better choice.

11. Helping others.

Now with this one I have a challenge. Don't just think about it. Do it. Go out and help others. Make a difference. Because at the end of the day (and at the end of this election), we the people are still who make a difference in this country--by loving on and helping those people whose paths we cross.

Happy Election Season, friends!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
