10 Reasons Your Freshman Roommate is Your Life Long Best Friend

Moving away from home can be a scary thing. The thought of living with a stranger can make that process absolutely terrifying. At least, that's how it was for me. I can now honestly say that living with a stranger was one of the best parts of freshman year. A stranger became my best friend and someone that I couldn't imagine not having in my life. In fact, I am even counting down the days until I can live with her again. Making this list, I thought of everything I experienced with my freshman roommate. I hope that you too form an incredible bond with your freshman roommate. It's a relationship that can't be beat. So, here's the 10 reasons your freshman roommate is your lifelong best friend.

1) You find yourself freshman year and they are there to help along the way.

They are finding themselves too and you will support each other more than you think. My roommate helped me get ready for sorority stuff all year and if that isn't love, I don't know what is.

2) They see you at your lowest.

Whether it be crying over a boy or freaking out over a grade, they are right there to see you fall apart. The best part is that they'll help put you back together and calm you down. Special shout out to my old roommate for helping me through panic attacks.

3) They also see you at your highest.

When you ace a hard final, get a date with the cute boy, or get a bid from your first pick sorority that will be who you want to tell first. I can promise it won't matter how late you have to stay up to share your happiness with them, you'll do it.

4) You help each other through life crisis.

These can be big and small. You could be the one bad mouthing the guy that broke up with her while throwing away his stuff or you could be the one talking her though a huge decision. At times it will be a lot of pressure and hard for you too but just remember that they will be there when you need them. Some of my hardest parts of freshman year came from helping her through stuff but I regret none of it.

5) They learn everything about you and still love you.

Not many people can walk into the room and see me curled up in a blanket with a hood coloring and not judge me, but my roommate didn't even bat an eye. They deal with your weirdness and love everything about you. They'll learn what makes you happy and bring you little surprises. They'll learn to be in the dorm when it storms if you're scared of storms like I am. They learn everything.

6) They deal with your bad habits and things they don't like about you.

I can't tell you how many times I got lectured about my empty soda bottled in the floor by my bed or heard her complain about my country music. They won't like everything about you but they put up with it and love you anyways.

7) Will watch trashy TV with you and put up with you Netflix binge sessions.

Even if they hate what you constantly watch on Netflix they will put up with it, to an extent, for your happiness. Just give them a turn sometimes.

8) They will always telepathically know when to check on you.

I still get asked if I'm okay like she knows the answer is no. She is still my therapist. You will have a connection like none other.

9) You will rub off on them and change their perspectives.

My freshmen roommate always told me that she didn't like animals. I am now an "aunt" to her cat. Clearly, anything is possible after living together for a year.

10) They will cry with you on move out day.

The hardest part of freshmen year is the end. Leaving your friends, in general, is never easy but this is a whole new level of hard. Walking out of the room I shared with my best friend for two months was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I will forever be grateful for my amazing random roommate.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
