In your first year of college, your roommate is many things. Most likely, they are the first person you've met at school, they are the person you go to your first college party with, they are the person you bond with and cling to in this new and exciting, but scary environment called college. You tell each other stories about your hometowns, teach each other how to cook ramen in a kettle, decorate your small shoebox of a dorm in bright lights for Christmas, and they are the first person you run home and tell when there is a cutie in your seminar.
If you are lucky, your freshman year roommate will be a friend for life. You will be able to share memories that only the two of you will understand, and you are able to face college side by side.
Here are 11 things to appreciate about your freshman year roommate:
1. She taught you how to make ramen. Without her, you probably would have starved.
2. She gently told you that maybe taking BIO 101 as an Acting major wasn't your best idea.
3. She was always there to help you get dressed when your nails were drying.
4. She loved Christmas as much as you do, and supported your decision to leave "Home Alone" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" on in your dorm for the entire month of December. Even when neither of you were home.
5. She cleaned both sides of your dorm when she knew you were really stressed out and busy.
6. She was always open to sharing clothes, and therefore doubled your outfit choices everyday.
7. She listened to every detail of your love life, the good and the bad. She listened even when you could tell she didn't care.
8. She was at every event you were a part of. Whether it was an event for a club, a bake sale, or a Cabaret show, she didn't miss anything.
9. You made not so great decisions together.
10. She supported you when you told her you never wanted salad.
11. She was greater then any freshman roommate you ever could have hoped for.
