The Kansas City Royals are an extremely unique team out of the many baseball league teams in the USA.
What makes them so unique is not only the individual players themselves, but the fans. Kauffman stadium holds not only the coolest team in baseball history, but the best fanbase as well due to the many qualities and traits each fan shares with one another. This connects a group of people to another group of people and so on, and creates a big crowd filled with hyperactive, excited fans that travel from all over the world to watch their favorite team play.
During the 2015 World Series when the Royals won, their fan base expanded outrageously, catching hold of fans that don’t quite understand the true meaning of being a Royals fan before they hit the fame-train last year. With that, it’s up to us old, loyal Royals fans to teach the newer fans (and those who aren’t fans at all) some of the things that make our boys in blue so great. Just in case you ever go to a Royals game or have been to one, these are things EVERY Royals fan should know.
1. The booing sounds are actually fans shouting “MOOOOOOSE!”
Mike Moustakas signed with the Royals in 2011 as a third baseman. His name became quite popular after several outstanding plays, and the fans would refer to him as “Moose”. During my first Royals game, Moustakas got someone out and everyone started booing. I was very confused as to why the fans would boo when their player just got the opponent team’s player out. After asking a few people around me, it was explained that that was the purpose as an inside joke with the team and fans. The booing sound was simply just the fans shouting “MOOOOOOSE!” I thought this was funny, especially because when people shout “Moose” they put their hands above their heads to look like they have antlers. Without understanding that that sound isn’t booing, you’d truly think (going to a game for the first time) that our team is crazy. This is one of the greatest known unique traits of the Royals fans. But wait… there’s more!
2. Eric Hosmer is the “team charmer."
For my ladies out there reading this, you and I both think the same thing when we hear or see anything regarding Hosmer. He’s pretty dreamy. Besides being talented, Hosmer is also hilarious (if you’ve seen his videos) and quite the sight for sore eyes. If you go to a game, the majority of women are probably wearing Hosmer shirts. Some for his talent, some for his looks. Either way, he’s probably one of the most popular Royals players. Being a first baseman, he gets quite a bit of camera love as well. Though many of the Royals players are deemed as attractive by the female fan base, Eric Hosmer takes the cake.
3. The Salvy Splash is one of the most popular parts of the game.
Salvador Perez is another popular Royals player. Not for all the same reasons as Hosmer, but more because of his love for his family, his culture, and his loyalty to the team. Did I mention Perez is quite a prankster? The “Salvy Splash” has become quite popular at the end of every Royals game. Whoever makes the best play gets a water-filled Gatorade container splashed on them unexpectedly by Salvy after the game. This tends to happen during the player’s interview, and sometimes even backlashes on Perez. Perez always smiles and has a good time, and makes sure to put on a good show for the fans. Besides being the best catcher in the world (if you’ve seen his plays, there’s no doubt), he truly loves making others happy. The Salvy Splash is his most well-known way of doing so!
4. Kansas City (secretly) loves Nebraska.
If you’re truly a Royals fan, you’ll know exactly why just by the title. For those of you who don’t know, though, one of the teams great players, Alex Gordon, just so happens to be from Nebraska! In fact, he even attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Not soon before long, his love for baseball carried on from the Nebraska team over to the Royals. The Kansas City Royals and all of their fans have a small, slight secret love for Nebraska simply for his existence as much as they may not want to admit it. Of course I do, since I have an intense love for the Cornhuskers and attend UNL myself, but not everyone is the same way. But whether the fans like it or not, everyone that loves Gordon, has love for Nebraska somewhere in their heart.
5. Kauffman Stadium’s parking lots are exhausting.
Kauffman stadium is huge, I mean HUGE. Therefore, it needs a reasonably large parking lot. Or, a few. I can’t name one time when I remember where the hell I parked my car. I’m not the only one, though, because after the games, EVERYONE is walking aimlessly trying to set their car alarms off so they can drive home. It sounds just as amusing as it actually is. Sometimes, us Royals fans meet in packs with strangers and walk around together helping each other. After all, teamwork is key, right?
6. Taking panoramas are crucial, and you have to include the fountain.
Kauffman is beautiful. I can’t describe it to you, but if you’ve ever been there, you know exactly what I mean. There is a sea as blue as the ocean itself, and the orange colored water fountains next to the big screen really tie the beauty in. During the games, you can just look around and see everyone taking photos of Kauffman’s beauty. If not that, check Instagram under the Kauffman location and just see for yourself. The green of the grass, the perfect scenery, and the sunset really capture the stadium in it’s full prime.
7. The players are the IRREPLACEABLE.
Okay there’s NO doubt that the Royals just so happens to consist of the coolest dudes ever. Zobrist can play in tons of positions, Salvy is absolutely hilarious, Orlando is Brazilian, Hosmer is insanely attractive, Cain kicks butt in the outfield, every player has some badass traits that make the Royals extremely diverse. Many of the players are so outstanding and talented that the plays are crazy to watch. I mean, I haven’t seen a single game where there wasn’t a super cool play by ONE of the players. At LEAST. Our boys in blue are unique and diverse, just like Kansas City. Everything they stand for represents everything that people throughout Kansas City stand for. They’re also insanely supportive, and take part in many community service activities. They’re humble, kind, loving, and all around just the best. Fans from other teams even have a tendency to like the Royals just because the players and the fans are so nice and fun. Not a single one of the Royals could ever be replaced. That’s what makes them so outstanding, especially now.
8. Tech N9ne is definitely a part of the Royals family. TECHnically.
Tech’s songs play quite often at Kauffman, and it’s no wonder why. Tech N9ne has been reppin’ Kansas City for over 24 years. If you have ever listened to Tech N9ne’s music, you’ve certainly heard something regarding Kansas City in them. In fact, Tech wrote a song about the Royals in 2015 right after they won the World Series. The song is called “KCMO Anthem” and is ALL about the Royals and their success in the championships. Tech attends the games, and makes it known to the entire nation which city is truly the best; Kansas City. You can’t be a Royals fan without being a Technician, and you can’t be a Technician without being a Royals fan.
9. Royals fans are EVERYWHERE.
It’s almost scary. Royals fans will appear anyhere and everywhere. Tv shows, games, concerts, airports, anywhere you go in the nation, there are Royals fans. That’s some solid dedication. At the games throughout the crowd, people even have signs saying where they’re from. It could be anywhere in the world from the Dominican Republic to the other side of the world. But in a way, that’s so cool because it ties into the diversity I was talking about earlier. The Royals are a unqiue and diverse team, just like their fans. That’s why they’re so special. The song “Come As You Are” would fit in well at Kauffman, don’t you think? I surely do. Especially since it’s so true. Nobody ever judges you at Royals games, so why would people judge you anywhere else? Royals fans from around the world show their pride nearly every single game day no matter where they are.

10. The World Series Parade was insane.
I’m not gonna lie, this was the craziest party I’ve ever been to. There are many estimates on how many people attended, but roughly about 800,000 people, the city claims, attended. That’s insane. The roads were blocked off, and you couldn’t move ten feet easily by any means. It was so insane that people were parking on the interstate and in the grass by the WWI museum. Oh, did I tell you Tech N9ne was there? He was watching from his hotel room porch. School got cancelled for many students, including myself, and everyone attended the parade. The sports storees were bursting with customers right before the event, too. There was nothing about the parade that wasn’t bat-shit insane. It was absolutely amazing, though, to see all the support from the fans. The boys in blue were surely feeling the love taht day, as many held up posters, signs, and even crowd surfed. Between women giving birth in the crowd and people climbing in the trees to see the parade, I guess you can say the entire city is down-right dedicated to the Royals.
I know I left a ton of things out, but these are my favorite ten things that EVERYONE should know about. Here are some more pictures (just to get it through your head if the ten facts didn’t). Keep reppin’ Kansas City, and keep reppin’ the Royals!!!
