College is such a unique time in your life and to really appreciate your friends and to broaden your horizons, there are 10 cities you should consider taking a day or weekend trip to.
1. Nashville, Tennessee
Want an excuse to live in your cowgirl or cowboy boots? Then Nashville is where you need to be. This beautiful city hosts the country hall of fame, honky-tonks, authentic country dance bars, and many museums and gardens. This city will allow you to feel a different way of life and fall in love with country music.
2. Charleston, South Carolina
There will rarely be another place that doesn't feel like you step back in time. Charleston is like a blast from the past, being rich in history and customs, break out your dresses and skirts to look cute and southern. From drinking sweet tea, excellent shopping, the French Quarter, and civil war memories everywhere, this city is truly one of a kind.
3. St. Louis, Missouri
Besides being able to see the coolest arches in the country, this city is up and coming with 20-30 year olds. This city hosts many parks, zoos, and Busch Stadium for those who love baseball. After visiting this city, you will definitely feel like you have captured a different part of the American spirit.
4. Austin, Texas
Austin is a great city to visit for your fellow music buff. Known as the live music capital of the world, it would be extremely hard to not enjoy hearing different beats and getting to enjoy the heat that this city can have. If you enjoy Formula 1 racing, you could take a trip to the racetrack in Austin, or take your time lounging around Lake Austin.
5. Seattle, Washington
Nicknamed the Emerald City because of all the parks that surround this city, Seattle hosts a different atmosphere. Rainy days promote relaxation, and the Pike Place Market is definitely a site to be seen. Interested in technology? Both Microsoft and Amazon are headquartered in this city and offer tours to guests of all ages.
6. Boston, Massachusetts
Like many cities on the East Coast, Boston hosts a huge historical background, while also offering many modern activities that you can do. There is a 2.5 mile walking trail around historical sites of the nation and if that doesn't float your boat, you could always try to catch a Boston Red Sox Game.
7. Denver, Colorado
Nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Denver acts as a beautiful introduction to the mid west. Located a mile above sea level, are a bunch of local breweries for the beer buff, country line dancing bars, and great slopes just a short drive from Denver. You could even take a 45 minute trip south and visit my home town Parker.... but there isn't much to do there.
8. San Fransisco, California
There is no possible way to sum up all the things you could do and visit in this gorgeous city. The Golden Gate Bridge, China Town, Alcatrez Island, Union Square, and AT&T Park are just a few of the amazing attractions you could visit. Or let's be honest, you could just walk up and down all the hills to get your Fitbit steps and a great workout.
9. New York City, New York
I feel like this city is a no-brainer to be on the list. You and some friends could just take a train up for the day and wander. Broadway shows, off broadway shows, great food, amazing shopping, people watching - the list is infinite of what you could do in this city. Just make sure you have your walking shoes, a purse that is not likely to get pick pocketed and your camera to snap some cool looking city shots.
10. Washington, D.C.
Our nation's capital is a city that could not be left off the list. This city boasts so many memorials, free museums, the White House for crying out loud - how could you not want to take a subway around and explore the center of our Nation. There are also a few cities around that may interest you as well - think Georgetown and Alexandria. While their cost might be high, it would be a great adventure for a weekend.
