My late father was a die hard Eagles fan. He watched the games relentlessly for years and was consistently let down. With that said, while I'm living in Pennsylvania so close to the heart of the team, I was a super fan that day for him. Eagles have always been my second team but on February 4, 2018, there was no other team in the world to me. Also, seeing Tom Brady get taken down was ah-mazingggg. Anyway, being a birds fan on February 4th was quite the experience and one that I'm sure no body who was bleeding green that day will ever forget.
The day began early for the me and there was a surreal feeling in the air. As the day continued the feeling only grew stronger and stronger until all of Philly was decorated with the color of the birds by 11:00. Here's my re-cap of what it was like to be in Philly Philly the day the evil empire fell.
1. Waking up like, "Whaaaat?"
Is today really the super bowl? Are we really in it? And we really might win?
2. Driving into the city.
My friend Cierra had a playlist of all Philadelphia based songs including, Philadelphia Freedom by the legendary Elton John, Dreams and Nightmares (duh) along with other Meek specialties, Pimpin' Pennsylvania by Afro Man, PA Nights by Mac Miller, Birds by Migos and other hype man songs to get everyone ready for the day.
3. Driving in the city.
If you were stopped next to another car there was a 100% chance you were cheering some sort of eagles fight song, chant or just a nice loud "WHOOOOOOO!" 100% chance.
4. The Pregame.
Whether you were at a house party with friends or family, or even tailgating at the Linc like me, I'm sure the feeling was just the same. Everyone was basking in the glory of the day that the Eagles were going to the Super Bowl! At the tailgate I think we sang the fight song at least ten times with anyone and everyone around us. All the fans came together to make the beginning of the day unforgettable. There were flags, dog heads, and Tom Brady mannequins galore.
5. Waiting for the game to start.
My girl Cierra and I were conspiring together all the signs we saw that pointed towards an Eagles win. Driving to our friends house and passing a street called Eagles street? That's a sign. The Bud light commercial saying "Dilly Dilly" just HAPPENING to rhyme with "Philly Philly?" Sign! All the songs on the radio that day talking about the 'underdogs'? SIGN! Prepping for the game was a nail biter. What were the players doing? What were they thinking? Are they as nervous as we are right now??? Cierra's hot take on the day was that they all ate a pan of lasagna the night before to prepare...thank you Cierra.
6. When the Eagles ran out to Dreams and Nightmares.
Free Meek!!!
7. Halftime.
Half of me was excited for the halftime show and the other half of me was too anxious to get back to the game. Go Justin! Go Birds! Go Justin! Go Birds! Go Birds! GO BIRDS!!!
8. Going into the second half.
Was Brady playing us the first half? I was too nervous to see how the Patriots would play in the second half. They had it in their heads that they were the Comeback Kings. Our birds took care of that ego.
9. Nick Foles.
In Foles we trust! Let's not forget his amazing receiving play to one up Brady's failed attempt. Never Forget.

10. When the screen said final score.
My friends and I wouldn't let any one celebrate and say we won until the clock read 0:00. When the words final score lit up the corner of the screen I swear all of Philly shook from the sounds of everyone's screams. Our friend Liv got up after they won and said, "Call the Uber! Philly here we come!"
11. The train.
Well we didn't actually want to fork up the money for an Uber and we were close enough to the 69th Street train to take that into inner city. Let me tell you, the train was CRAZY. The whole time everyone was jumping and chanting and banging on the walls. There were so many people on the train going crazy we were worried it might fall off the tracks! I would write down some of the chants but expletives were exchanged. Let's just say a popular chant rhymed with Truck Mom Lady.
12. Being outside of city hall after the game.
Everyone was happy and going crazy and chanting for the Eagles. There were fireworks and sparklers and Roman candles and streamers, some of which were toilet paper streamers coming from the high up windows. Did you hear about the Ritz Carlton Awning falling? I watched that. Light posts were coming down and if they weren't falling, there was sure as hell an Eagles fan or two at the top.
13. The commercials.
This article wasn't actually about the eagles, it's a Tide ad.
