Lately, I have been substituting Netflix with YouTube in my free time, mostly because I don't want to "commit" to a new show in the middle of the semester. During this time, I have been watching YouTube instead and have discovered some YouTube channels that help me relieve stress by entertaining me, making me laugh out loud, and surprisingly giving me advice on how to live a more positive life. Below are 9 YouTube Channels you should, at least, try watching and maybe even subscribing to, some are more popular while others are newer. Caution, this may make you procrastinate or binge-watch, proceed with care.
1. Anna Akana
Anna makes motivational and advice videos in a creative and funny way. She gives advice on anything from careers, relationships, mental illness, and racial issues. Seriously, I can not watch her videos without feeling guilty and getting back on task a little after and I have actually applied some of her tips to my real life.
2. Rob Dyke
Warning: these videos are not for the faint of heart...this is typically how a Rob Dyke video begins. These videos combine Rob's soothing narrating voice with scary and interesting real life stories about ghosts, conspiracy theories and serial killers. His channel features different series, such as "question everything" in which he talks about issues such as cannibalism and brain transplants, interesting stuff!
3. The Gabbie Show
You might or might not know her as a Viner, but her YouTube videos are longer and funnier! She mostly talks about her relationship disasters and will most likely make you feel better about your life, which is always good!
4. Cordero Roman
Cordero makes videos that involve interviewing strangers or social experiments. While many people dislike these types of videos, I find them interesting, because you can get an insight on people's different perspectives and the complexity of human nature. Plus, some people have very funny reactions and sometimes, faith in humanity is restored.
5. RiceGum
He is a less-known YouTuber that makes videos mostly "roasting" (making fun of) people, mostly little kids. Yah, it sounds bad, but watch for yourself and you will probably find yourself agreeing with him most of the time.
6. grav3yardgirl
She makes mostly makeup and clothing videos. I'm not usually one to watch "beauty gurus" but Bunny mixes it up with interesting video series such as thrift store hauls, antique store hauls, and "Does this thing really work?" in which she hilariously tries out "As Seen on TV" items. What drew me to this channel was mostly her positive energy and unique style of tie dye shirts and extreme shoes.
7. Caspar Lee
He is a more famous South African YouTuber with a sarcastic sense of humor. He makes prank and comedy videos in collaboration with other YouTubers and actors/comedians.
8. WatchCut Video
This channel is responsible for series such as "100 Years of Beauty," which shows significant fashion trends on both men and women throughout the decades in different countries and "One Word" in which they gather a group of people and present them with a word or phrase such as "Fat" or "Mother" and get diverse reactions and opinions. These videos are interesting because they show perspectives from different places and people and deal with real issues such as race inequality, bullying and eating disorders.
9. Sarah Hawkinson
She is a psychology major who makes all types of videos, ranging from more emotional videos giving advice on hard topics such as anxiety and gender identity to more light, fun content such as makeup and clothing hauls, books, and music. Her videos are great if you need advice, motivation, or are interested in psychology as well!
