You may live in Chicago, but may not have experienced Chicago.

Patheos

Ahhh, Chicago! For DePaul University students, the city campus offers a unique opportunity to really explore Chicago and learn the rich history behind it. However, for many out-of-state students, Chicago can take some time to get used to. (Students who lived in Chicago their whole lives already know how to get around in the city.)

How do you become a real Chicagoan? Aside from learning how to move through the city, it does not take much. In fact, you just need to experience some of the best things Chicago has to become a full-fledged city person. For this, I found seven things you need to do to become a Chicagoan.

So, you are not a real Chicagoan until you...

1. Eat deep-dish pizza

Seriously, you need to experience some of the best deep-dish pizza that Chicago offers. It is so good your mouth will water just thinking about it. I am sure plenty of places offer deep-dish pizza, but there is a difference between Chicago deep-dish and everywhere else’s deep-dish.

2. Take a picture at The Bean

As touristy as that sounds for anyone living in Chicago, you really are not a true Chicagoan unless you have taken a photo there. At 33 feet high and 66 feet long, the attraction makes for a great cover on Facebook or Twitter

3. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

What everyone says is true: Chicago is the best place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. On top of a green-dyed Chicago River, there is a huge parade, the occasional drunk celebrator throwing up, and a ton of bar crawls happening. There really is no better place to celebrate the day!

4. Go to a game on Wrigley Field

Another famous landmark of Chicago! Let’s forget about this whole Sox versus Cubs rivalry (Cubs, always Cubs) and take a minute to really enjoy this beautiful area. Walking into Wrigley Field and having a Chicago-style hot dog is something you cannot experience in any other ballpark.

5. Go to Wrigleyville after a game on Wrigley Field

I mean, you are already in Wrigleyville when you go to see a game at that ballpark, so you may as well do it! This area is home to a countless number of bars, so you have plenty of options for getting a drink in victory/drinking your sorrows away after Wrigley Field game!

6. Have the Chicago Mix at Garrett’s Popcorn

You are doing yourself a favor if you go and get this life-changing popcorn! This is without a doubt the best popcorn ever. When here, get the Chicago Mix! The combination of cheese and caramel is something you can never get enough of!

7. Go to Taste of Chicago

Noticed that Chicago’s prime selling point is its food? Well, “Taste” is a good reason why Chicagoans love food! This is one of the world’s largest food festivals and it’s the perfect way to sample a little of every food in Chicago!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
