Would you freak if I told you the reason you consistently suffer from a mild cold is a cause of your mentality? Or the reason someone is able to come back from an injury that no one comes back from is because of their mentality? Well, it's true. Your brain controls more than most people know or think. You can literally convince yourself your ankle hurts more than it actually does. Just like you can convince yourself that your life is way worse than it really is, even to the point of depression.

We have to stop betting on medicine and pills and therapists to save us without first trying to save ourselves. Wait, did I just say that we could solve our own issues? Yep, sure did. You are totally in control of what thoughts you let enter your brain and what energy you create and let last. I know and understand people have off days and sometimes we just need to cry. But there's a big difference between being sad one day versus being down and pessimistic about every little thing for weeks on end.

I see mentality running so many of my friends' lives for better or for worse. I have a friend that suffered a serious knee injury and was told by numerous doctors that she'd never be able to play her sport again. It just wasn't an injury you come back from. But she stands beside me, on the field today, running just as fast (if not faster) than me and her mentality is what made all the difference. She told herself she could and she would, and she did. I've also seen it take control of some of my friends' lives. They'll convince themselves that everything around them sucks and they're unhappy and sad and you slowly see their health reflect that same mindset. They get consistent colds, they end up curled up in bed more often than not and there's little to no enthusiasm for life from them. But in both situations, they were controlled by the person themselves.

You have the ability to lead your world, your happiness, your success, and your health. It's on you first before it's on anyone else.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
