You Need Friends Who...

Friends help you grow and soar to heights you thought were impossible.

You Need Friends Who...
Kelly Poston

Everyone needs friends regardless of what anyone says.

You need that support system of people you trust and love to keep you going.

You need people that will leave you better than when you found them. They are the people who will help you grow, help your soar, help you find the best possible version of yourself.

You need friends that will joke around with you just to get a smile on your face. You need friends that will poke your stomach and ruffle your hair just to get you to laugh. You need friends who will bring you joy and make you happier than you could ever imagine. It's friends who will tag you on Facebook of puppies, Dr. Pepper, or even chicken nuggets because it reminded them of you. It's friends who freely talk about their types and celebrity crushes. It's the friends who never want to see the smile disappear from your face that will last a lifetime.

But,

You need friends who will also hold you when you cry. Hug you when you are down. Friends who immediately know something is going on when they see you for the first time that day. You need friends who remind you it's okay to break. You need friends who say, "Our friendship is usually 50-50, but I know you can only give 10 so I will give the other 90." You need friends who will stay up the entire night making sure you are in the best possible mindset before heading to bed. It's friends who will make you feel good about yourself and let you know that you are beautiful and kind and smart.

You need friends who love and care for you at your high, but also walk beside you on your low. Friends who would leave a party to make sure you are okay and then eat handfuls of chicken nuggets with you. It's friends who will keep you accountable for your actions and push you to finish what you've started. Whether it's making sure you finish your homework or finishing your last cheese stick. It's those people who believe in you even when you don't.

You need friends.

They ultimately make you who you are and choosing and trusting the right people can be a scary thing. It can be terrifying, but when you realize that you are comfortable spitting back sass or knocking on their door to break in front of them, you know you've made the greatest friendships this world has seen.

Many people will argue that friends are not necessary for life. As long as you have your family and lover, friendship is just a luxury and leisure relationship that is fun, but not needed. Those people are wrong.

Friendships are precious and they are one of a kind. Each relation is unique, wired just slightly different. You can have one friend or handfuls and it will still do its justice.

Friends are a gift to this world that some often don't deserve, but have anyways because through those friendships, you become a better person, a better friend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
