If you are currently working at a golf course or ever have in the past, you are all too familiar with the following situations. From constantly checking the weather to see if you'll have to work or not, to always finding golf tees and balls in all of your pockets, working on a golf course is an experience in its own league (pun intended).
1. You are constantly checking the weather.
Because your job is extremely weather-dependent, you keep a close eye on the weather forecast. This makes it easier to estimate when your busy days will be.
2. Thanks to #1, most of your conversations at work are about the weather.
Being consistently up to date with the weather makes you prepared for any questions about future conditions of the course. "What's this weekend look like?" "Oh, it looks like we're going to have some rain midday Saturday, but it should clear up by the evening!"
3. Or golf.
You are constantly asking golfers things like, "So, how'd ya hit 'em?" Even if you don't play golf yourself, you know what number constitutes a good score because of countless conversations with golfers.
4. Your pockets are always filled with golf balls and tees.
During the work day, if you come across unbroken golf tees or balls, you probably do what I do and save them. This means finding tees in every pocket of your clothing, long after you thought you had cleaned them all out. Even though I only work at a golf course during the summer, I can hear golf balls rolling around on the floor of my car all year long.
5. You know most of the golfers by name.
You've grown accustomed to seeing the same friendly faces each day when you go into work. This makes work feel a little more like home.
6. You're a pro at driving (and parking) golf carts.
Because working at a golf course constitutes keeping each cart parked nicely, especially for tournaments, you are well experienced with cart parking and driving. As far as you're concerned, you're the best cart driver around (no matter what anyone else says!).
7. You know your way around the course like it's the back of your hand.
You know all of the ins and outs of the course, especially shortcuts to certain holes. Need to go find someone on hole eight? No problem. You know the quickest, most efficient way.
8. Hearing the sound of screeching cart tires makes you cringe like nails on a chalkboard.
This golf course faux pas is one that is exceptionally painful to you. As a staff member, you know not to screech the tires of a golf cart, especially not in the parking lot. It's pretty embarrassing, even if you're not the person driving the cart.
9. You've probably been hit by a golf ball at some point.
This happened to me either my first or second summer of working at a golf course. I was driving a CarryAll, and the ball hit the metal back of the vehicle with a huge BANG! I was so startled!
10. You think the golf course you work at is better than any competing course, and you trash talk the other place(s) often.
Hey, it's not your fault you work at The Best Golf Course In The World. You're simply stating the facts. The people/prices/greens simply cannot be beat. Sorry, losers.
