Sorry, But I'll Take My Guns And Protect My Home

Gun control is not something we should look past because it can truly effect the way we live.

The right to bear arms, a privilege and right all United States citizens have. What is the Second Amendment? The second amendment is a right/law within the constitution, which states that "a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Gun control, that is a topic that I am questioned on repeatedly throughout my major. As for where I stand, I stand against gun control. I'm on this side of the debate because I truly believe we all have the right to obtain and carry 'arms' or guns. I believe that if you take away certain guns or up the age to obtain a gun license, you're only making it harder for everyday citizens to protect themselves.

For many, the AR-15, and other rifles to protect their families, along with themselves. The AR-15 is mostly categorized as a military assault rifle by the general public. But if everyone turned off the media and began looking into the guns and actual statistics that are in debate about getting banned, then they would see the truth behind it.

An AR-15 does not stand for an assault rifle but it stands for ArmaLite rifle, so by even saying it's an assault rifle is wrong. The fact that people want to ban certain guns, and put the blame on certain guns is neglecting to hold the people behind the gun accountable.

The whole basis of gun control is that certain guns kill Americans, but that's just not true. People kill other people, you can't place a gun on the floor and witness it get up and start killing people. It just won't.

Some believe that when the amendment reads "The right of the people to keep and bear Arms" it creates an individual right to the citizens of the United States. While also under the "Individual right theory" the constitution restricts the government to prohibit the possession of firearms. It renders them doing so, unconstitutional.

With one side of interpretation undergoing, there is always another. Some believe in the individual right theory, some believe in "the collective rights theory", which focuses on the part of the amendment which states "a well-regulated militia". The collective rights theory stands to say that the citizens do not have the right to possess (or bear) firearms and that local, state, and federal legislative bodies have the authority to regulate firearms without implicating a constitutional right.

Many who believe in this, argue that this type of language was used because framers only intended to restrict Congress from doing away with the state's right to defend itself. But what is the issue between societies? Issues lie between whether or not guns should or should not be banned. One side looks at an AR-15 as an assault rifle like they use in the military. But on the other side, they see a rifle that can defend their homes and their families.

Think about it for a minute, if you take away guns from the law abiding citizens, the 'bad' guys will still find a way to get guns of their own. If you take away any non-military issued weapon, then you'd leave the law-abiding citizens defenseless.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
