The Year Of Me

Me, Myself and I

The Year Of Me

In the past, I've always made a list of things that I want to change or things that I feel are necessary for the new year, but I've never actually done any of them. This year is different. This year I want to make the things on my list not so much about what I want to change about myself but what I want to do and what will make me happy.

This year I'm taking a vow to make this year the year of me. This year I'm going to do things that make me happy, which is something I've found that most people actually have a hard time with, we are constantly trying to make other people happy, whether it be with our appearance, the way we carry ourselves, or the people we choose to hang out with. So this is my plan for this year.

1. Read More Books.

This one is number one on my list because, personally I love to read. Books take you to another world and place that sometimes take the pressure of reality off of you for at least a little while. Also reading makes you smarter so that's always another plus.

2. Exercise

Not lose weight, but exercise. Whether it be going on a run, yoga, or a cycling class. Exercising has been proven to let out endorphins which will make you a happier person. I want to exercise because I want to be a better version of myself and I know that this will help me get there.

3. Grow my relationship with the Lord

I want to become closer with God this year. I will take more time out of my day to sit down and read the bible, by doing this our relationship will grow and I feel that this will lead me to a better lifestyle.

4. Travel

This has been on my bucket list since I was 10 years old. But its always been about getting on a plane and traveling to some remote destination. Now I want to get in a car and camp under the night stars on the beach with a group of my greatest friends. I want to see the Big Apple, the Grand Canyon and the Arizona desert. I will probably not see all of these sights this year, but I will see at least one of them. I want to see the beautiful country God gave us all in this year.

This list of things is something that I will hold myself accountable to throughout the year. I definitely feel that I will lead a happier life after following through with the year of me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
