I came to a point in my life where I've realized that there are many people I've let hold power over me. The negative energy rolling around inside from a bad breakup has left me feeling that I need closure. Sometimes, a person can hold power over you simply because you can't stop thinking about them. It is a very common problem people face. However, it is an easy fix. It may not be a good idea to go to said person and give them a piece of your mind because they aren't going to change. Besides, confronting them isn't about them, it's about you and your need to rebalance your energies. That being said, I have found that writing letters that are never to be sent have proven to be extremely healing. You can pretend you are addressing this person head-on, you can be honest and emotional and pour your energy into this letter. When it's done, you can keep it or you can throw it away.
I've realized my anger isn't about my ex-boyfriend, it's about myself, and I've let myself become distracted from the real problem by blaming him for my emotions. Writing my letters is an angry and emotional process. It is basically a huge vent session between me, my pen, and my paper. By the end of it, I feel lighter because it wasn't about giving him a piece of my mind, it's about giving myself a sense of peace and closure.
At the end of the day, you are the one that needs to feel good and comfortable with yourself. It isn't about the friend that wronged you, the ex-lover, the mean person at the store or the neglectful parent. Your emotional discord cannot be solved by an external source. The only person that can fix that is yourself. Realizing that you have that power within yourself to change is the hardest step, but also the most beautiful.
People go through challenges every day and deal with people they don't want to deal with. Balance out the changing energies around you. Centering yourself and letting your energy flow through a constructive task, such as writing, is liberating. You may be addressing your letter to a certain person, but the person it's really addressed to is the writer. Write that letter to yourself. It doesn't have to be now, or tomorrow, or the next day, but we all deserve forgiveness and closure. Life is too short to ruminate on the negative. Free yourself and discover the power we all possess to create change for a better tomorrow.
