The photo above really captures everything I intend to achieve with this article, it captures our "Crippled World" folding in, at what could be one of the greatest moments in sports history. Legendary shortstop Derek Jeter, "Number 2," hits a homer for his 3000th hit, this is a great achievement.
Now If you look at the picture well enough you notice the alarming amount of people who have their phones out documenting the act, instead of cheering on the Captain. This is a moment that would never again happen for Jeter, but these fans still chose their phones instead of the moment in real time. This picture to me embodies our nations issue.
Instead of taking moments in, we are getting ready to take them with our smart phones.
There is the general statement that "money makes the world go round", which could be factual but not without the backing of words. Communication is key, and in the world we live in today we have lost track of those skills and rely on technology a little too much.
Computers do a lot, but they cannot negotiate using words, face-to-face contact is what makes this economy stable. Phones do a lot, but it is dates that take effort that make relationships with words being said, and emotions being seen instead of smushed into characters on a keyboard, that make for a lifetime.
I live in a world before my time, where I wish that people would say I love you to one another, instead of through a long stream of technology. Where friends gathered to talk and not tweet, and whenever something amazing is about to come, we do not pull out our phones to document it, but watch it real time.
This world that I dream of would make for a better tomorrow. Technology is wonderful but people abuse it's uses and loose their sense of what communication is. We need to reinstate this idea of human communications back into our society, that is currently crippled by technology itself.
Human communication means putting down the phone while on a date, and really taking in the moment in time and what you are your significant other are sharing.
Human Communication is going a run, without the headphones, and instead using nature as your motivation.
Human Communication is pulling out a map, and asking for directions, instead of using google maps to take you to your destination. They do say that the "Journey is more important than the destination" but by pulling out our google maps we are following a voice manned by technology rather than communicating with other humans.
Human Communication is taking a walk down the street and smiling at strangers, instead of loosing your head in a phone screen.
Human Communication is heading out to a store to do your shopping instead if doing it all through a device.
These are just a select few examples of how communication should be, it should be human not technological. These ideas may seem silly knowing the age we are in, but think how much more you would enjoy your time here on this earth if you sometimes put down the device.
I am not stating that technology is bad because Technology does have its pros yes, but it also has its cons. So to alleviate some of those cons be a human not a device!
