Winners
San Antonio Spurs: SAS did great this offseason, reassuring to the people who thought they have fallen off, that they are going to be around for awhile. Their successful offseason started when they resigned Kawhi Leonard to a max deal. They then went and acquired probably the best free agent, Lamarcus Aldridge. These two moves alone will make the Spurs a championship contender again in the West, especially with Tim Duncan coming back.
Milwaukee Bucks: The Bucks are a young emerging team that has a lot of young talent that can shift things around in the East. They resigned Kris Middletown to a big deal, which was a good move to keep him after he had a successful year. They then went out and got Greg Monroe, who I think is the second best big man out of all the free agents. The moves they made will make them the third or even second best team in the East.
Dallas Mavericks: The Mavs struck out on Gasol and Aldridge but they didn’t stop. They went out and got DeAndre Jordan who is the best big man in the game. Another great pick up was Wesley Matthews, who will be a great player for them. They won’t be contending for a title next year, but they took a step forward in rebuilding their team to become a championship team.
Losers
Los Angeles Lakers: LA is usually a top place to go for a free agent, but not this day in age of basketball where players are going places to win right away. LA doesn’t have the necessities to make a championship run anytime soon, so why would a player go there. The flashy lights and showtime of the Lakers didn’t attract any big names this year, they need to start winning to show some promise to the future big time free agents.
Los Angeles Clippers: They were set up to make a championship run again if they could retain Jordan, but they failed and it didn’t work out for them. Their big name free agent signee, Lance Stephenson, was a questionable pick up especially after having year like he did like last year. The LA lights aren’t attracting the superstars this year.
New York Knicks: They should be able to get any player that is a free agent. However, they didn’t do something right and they failed miserably this year. They tried getting every big name free agent this year and didn’t get one. Their big name was Robin Lopez and he is a decent player but not a player that will get a team to the playoffs.
