The college football season is quickly approaching, and the hype surrounding each school is becoming greater and greater. Being a student at OSU, I'm going to try to make this as unbiased as possible. The Pokes are one of the up and coming teams in college football and I expect them to have a huge year. Already ranked as a preseason number three in the Big 12 conference, the year is looking good.
A big reason for the hype is definitely the offense. With the returning of veteran receivers, David Glidden, Brandon Shepard, and James Washington, QB Mason Rudolph should have no problem throwing the ball. The nation was introduced to Rudolph when OSU played Baylor in Waco. Despite the loss in Texas, he led the Cowboys to wins over Oklahoma and Washington in the Cactus Bowl. He is now claimed to be a dark horse for the Heisman by multiple experts.
Rudolph being named the starter is certainly an upgrade from last year. Let's be honest, Daxx Garman could just never get into a groove, and being from the high school that basically recruited him, I was one of his biggest fans. The backfield is no slouch either by any means. Junior Rennie Childs is returning, and the acquisition of junior college transfer, Chris Carson, is huge for the run game.
The defense is also extremely solid in their own way. Linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah and cornerback Kevin Peterson were named preseason All-Americans, and the Cowboys have multiple returners including conerback Ashton Lampkin. With the way the roster looks at this moment I see no reason why the Cowboys can't go at least 9-3 or even 10-2. TCU and Baylor will be tough games even at home, and playing Oklahoma is always a toss up. Just like the orange they wear on saturdays, the upcoming season is looking bright for the Cowboys.
