Why You Should Try Flywheel

Spinning is better than running

Why You Should Try Flywheel

Let me start off my saying that I have been trying to write an article about Flywheel ever since I started to write for the Odyssey, but I have never been able to accurately depict my love for spinning in an article but I decided it was worth another try.

I am prone to injuries. My friends always tell me they don't remember a time that I wasn't in a boot, a brace, or a cast. I used to be obsessed with running -- well, until my legs gave up on me and told me that they don't want to run and instead want to give me constant stress fractures.

I decided that maybe it was time to try a new form of exercise, and spinning came to my mind first. But I had two thoughts before I entered my first class: I have always been a runner, never a biker, why am I here? And, am I really going to want to drive 20 minutes to work out for 45 minutes when I have a gym around the corner from my house?

I definitely lied to myself because I can't imagine my life without spinning anymore. When I am at school and have to run, I get annoyed and I am more than willing to drive 20 minutes to spin. Honestly, sometimes I drive home for a weekend from college just so I can go to a spinning class.

Flywheel has changed my life. I not only look differently physically but I also look at life differently. Flywheel is the best workout you will ever get and here's why.

1. Classes are only 45 minutes -- well, unless you sign up for FLY60 but that's only if you're a true flyer.

The 45 minutes completely fly (see what I did there) by because you have music blasting in your ears and an awesome instructor pushing you to the limits.

2. Nobody is there to judge you.

The room is completely dark forcing you to get in the zone. You are only competing with yourself. Everyone has a bad day of spinning but nobody will know because your ride is your ride. Flywheel is what you make it to be.

3. The instructors are incredible.

You may hate them for making you do a 60-second sprint, but they are only trying to make you better or when they make you sprint in third position. They only want to make you better and that is their job. Although you may want to kill them during class, after class you'll be thankful that they just gave you the best workout of your life.

4. You will sweat.

Although sweating an absurd amount may not sound appealing it is definitely a rewarding feeling. All that alcohol you drank last week will come right out of you.

5. Flywheel leaves you with the feeling like you can do anything.

After those 45 minutes, you walk out of the class feeling like you can accomplish anything. You just survived one of the hardest workouts which means you can do anything you want.

Flywheel is, by far, one of the sweatiest and most intense workouts you will ever do. Your $30 for one class won't buy you a locker room or a shower, but it will definitely buy you the best 45 minutes of your life.

Now, I know flywheel isn't for everyone but I encourage you to give it a chance and chances are you will fall in love with it, well at least I hope you do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
