Being thankful for everything God has blessed you with in your life is something my papaw has always taught me to do, regardless of the good and bad. He also would always tell me that there is someone in this world who has it way worse than you could ever imagine. I believe that a hundred percent. Throughout our whole life we tend to take advantage of the things we have been blessed with. We see the bad moments as horrible and see the great moments as good. I'm here to tell you that no matter what life has dealt or still is, you should always be thankful for the things you have encountered. For tomorrow is not promised, but what you can do today is be thankful for everything and everyone.
"The truth is you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. Life is a crazy ride, and nothing is guaranteed." -Eminem
We tend to conform our life to try and impress the people around us. To show off and look "cool" from the material things that we buy. But, when is the last time you have stopped and thought about how grateful you are for everything God has put in your life besides the high-end clothes you wear or the expensive car you drive? I feel that many times you forget to thank God, your parents or whoever made it possible for you to have these things. Whether you are a glass half empty person or glass half full, just take a moment to slow down and appreciate the things in life that could be gone tomorrow. It should truly change your perspective about things.
I myself tend to not thank God enough for the things He has done for me. I sometimes fall victim to the "Why did you do this, God?" or "How do I deserve what is happening to me right now?" I get caught in the moment and don't think about how this is only a bump in the road for God's bigger plan for me. I know that everything that happens in our life is not as major as it seems. It is just a minor tribulation to make you appreciate other things.
I recently started to work at a place called Independent Opportunities. I spend my days being around and taking care of individuals that have been diagnosed with developmental disabilities. I can truly say this with one hundred percent confidence, the majority of this world takes for granted what God has given us. When you wake up in the morning, that is a blessing. When you can go out with friends and be active, that is a blessing. When you can cook and feed yourself throughout the day, that is a blessing. So many people don't realize that the way you carry out your regular day can be taken from you at any given moment. It truly opened my eyes and made me realize that all the things I thought were so awful, were merely pebbles in my life.
So, next time you get upset over that relationship that didn't work out, that person that cut you off on the highway, the new Ralph Lauren shirt they didn't have in your size or just simply anything you think is major, stop and think because it could be 10 times worse. There is always someone out there that isn't capable of having the opportunities you have in your daily life. Thank your loved ones especially.
As for myself, I am far from perfect. I have made plenty of mistakes and have done things I truly regret in my life, and I will for the rest of my life also. But, the one thing I have came to realize is that you can't control the inevitable; everything happens for a reason. What you think is the worst thing ever is just a small hiccup in your lifelong journey.
So, with all that being said, I hope you enjoyed this. I have had my ups and downs and I am pretty sure you have as well. But, no matter what kind of deck life deals you or already has, be thankful for what you have in your life. Whether that be your physical ability, your health or just a relationship with someone. Never take anythings in your life for granted. God bless y'all.
"Be true to yourself, help others, make each day your masterpiece, make friendship a fine art, drink deeply from good books -- especially the Bible, build a shelter against a rainy day, give thanks for your blessings and pray for guidance every day." -John Wooden
