There is more to life than just living

20 Life Lessons Everyone Should Know

1. The grass isn't greener on the other side, it's greener where you decide to water it.

Everyone believes someone else's life is better than their own. You watch how other people live and wish it could be that easy for you. Little do you know, that person assumes the same about you. Everyone deals with something, some more than others, but we all live a complicated life in one way or another. The only way things will get better is if you do something about it.

2. Anger makes smart people stupid.

There is a 24-hour rule to being angry. Do not act on anything before that time is up. Usually, you won't care as much and realize you don't need to act on it anymore. Anger can be the strongest emotion we have and the most dangerous one as well. It can completely blind you until you see nothing but red. Angry decisions will never make you feel better. And most of the time, they aren't worth it.

3. Sometimes your knight in shining armor is just a douchebag in tin foil.

There are now 7 billion people in this world. Yes, 7 BILLION. I'm sure that last one was really great for a while and you thought he was the one, but there are plenty more "ones" for you. Don't waste your time trying to figure out why he ended up treating you badly or why it had to happen that way. Spend your time working on yourself and the next one will come along. Forget about that guy who cheated on you, lied, or fooled you. He's nothing but tin foil.

4. There is a difference between being kind and letting people take advantage of you.

Being nice to others is a natural instinct, for some. If you're one of those people, make sure you know the difference. Always be good to people but know when to say no. If kindness is not returned but taken for granted, give that kindness elsewhere.

5. Only people who dare drive the world forward.

If you want to change the world, do it. If you want that dream job, work for it. Sitting around wishing there was something you could do is not going to help. Even the smallest step could make all the difference. Take a chance and don't hold back.

5. Cut the poison out of your life no matter whom or what it may be.

If you haven't realized it by now, your life is your own. No one said you had to keep bad people around and no one said you couldn't do what makes you happy. Regardless of what is dragging you down, there is no rule that it needs to stay that way. It's your choice to erase that negativity.

6. Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll receive positive results.

Think positive. Easier said than done, but possible. Waking up with a negative mindset will result in a negative day. Maybe life is being extra unfair lately, but there are still thousands of things to be thankful for and happy about. Focus on the good and more will come.

7. Your best teacher is your last mistake.

Regret is ignorant. Sure, that last mistake you made really sticks in the back of your mind and you wish you could go back but there's a reason it happened. These mistakes, no matter how unpleasant they may be, teach us lessons we need to better our lives and ourselves.

8. The only way out is through.

Times are bad and your life seems like it's in shambles. It happens. Even so, you have to get out of bed and face the day and push yourself until you're out of that funk. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, but you have to make your way there, it won't come to you.

9. Don't waste your time on revenge, those who hurt you will eventually face their own karma.

Being consumed with revenge will not complete you. It will control and manipulate you until it is all you know. So that person really screwed you over or that friend betrayed you in the most unspeakable way. So what? That defines them as a person, not you. Continue living your life, karma will get them for you.

10. A bad day doesn't mean a bad life.

You woke up late, failed a test, got a parking ticket, and tripped in front of your class. Shit happens and days can be horrible. Fortunately, there is always a new day. Today sucks, your life doesn't.

11. Your life is a one time offer, use it well.

Stop taking your life for granted. Even if your down on your luck or maybe your life isn't going the way you want, be grateful you have a life. This world is a giant and mind blowing place with endless amounts of opportunity and things to discover. Go out and do things. Live and laugh and enjoy your time here while you still have it. Don't sulk or complain about the little things. Your life is a message, you should know what you want it to say.

12. You don't need a reason to help people.

Some people do kind things just for reward. Sure, if you hold the door open for someone, a "thank you" would be nice in return. But don't do good things because you want to be praised or portrayed as a saint. Do good things simply to be a good person. We're all on this planet together, we might as well help each other out.

13. Forget what you want and remember what you deserve.

You want that person to realize what's right in front of them and change their ways. That isn't going to happen. If someone hurts you, they will hurt you again. If someone does you wrong and gets away with it, you best believe they will again. Stop trying so hard for people who don't try for you. If that person doesn't treat you the way you deserve, someone else will.

15. Loneliness is better than bad company.

It's better to spend time with yourself than with people who bring out the worst in you. Surrounding yourself with bad people or bad influences is never better than just being alone. Rid yourself of bad company and you will find yourself with people who are good for you.

16. Be sure to taste your words before you spit them out.

We are all human beings, even the worst of us. Just because someone hurts you doesn't mean you need to hurt them back. Always be careful with what you say, some words can sting like venom. You never know what could drive someone over the edge or what could change the way they view themselves. If it's something you wouldn't want said to you, don't say it to someone else.

17. Your goals won't work unless you do.

Nothing worthwhile comes easy. You have to work for what you want, and not only sometimes but every single day. Things take time and effort, so if you want something bad enough, start now and don't stop until you get it.

18. If you're going through hell, keep going.

Nothing lasts forever. This is the worst part and the most difficult, but it doesn't stay this way. You have to fight through whatever it is and you'll get to where you need to be. It really does get better.

19. Sometimes the right path is not the easiest one.

Most of the time, it's not. The hardest things and decisions we make are usually the ones that are best for us. Life would be way too easy if it were the other way around. Don't go down the simple path because it's easy and less painful, it will just prolong your journey down the right one.

20. The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.

Don't be offended when someone doubts you, take it as a challenge. You are capable of absolutely everything and anything you want. Get up and get started and work your ass off to get where you want to be in life. It's a great reward to prove people wrong.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
