Happiness can be derived from so many different aspects of life. The common misconception of people nowadays is that happiness is defined as a choice. Wrong. Happiness is what you, as an individual, make out of it. Life is full of these things called choices, and happiness is just one. The choice to push yourself in the direction of bliss takes courage and determination. Just remember these few things:
Indulge yourself!
If staying up all night looking at puppies online instead of writing your research paper is what will make your whole world joyful, then do it. If buying a new outfit lights up your day, go for it. If eating that whole large extra cheese pizza will make you happy, then who cares about the calories? Choose what will trigger your smile.
Take things one day at a time.
Too many projects and homework? A lot on your mind with family and friends? Take your time on things, rushing and overthinking can only make things worse. Slow down, regroup yourself, and just watch the things around you come together. Stress shouldn't overcome your pleasure.
Everything happens for a reason.
Some things are just out of your control. Don't get hung up on the things that may put a damper on your day, just remember that tomorrow is a new chance to do something great.
Be spontaneous.
If you want to skip that lecture and take a road trip to the beach, you should. Sing as loud as you can in the shower. Go dance outside in the rain. Do something you wouldn't usually catch yourself doing, I promise it's exhilarating after.
Be yourself, be who you love.
You shouldn't have to take advice you don't agree with. Major in what YOU want and not what others tell you to. Wear as much makeup as you please, and dye your hair whatever color floats your boat. Ignore the people standing in your way. In order to accept your happiness, you have to be content with who you are. Follow your path you choose for yourself. Individuality is key.
Only YOU can set your path to happiness and peacefulness. So choose to eat that pizza. Choose to run away for the day. Choose to take that time alone and watch a movie instead of homework. Choices are all full of surprises. Which way will you decide to go?
