Since the regular season has come to an end - and a good one for the dubs - the postseason has been anything but predictable.
The Warriors beat the Houston Rockets to advance from the Western Conference first round and went on to beat the Portland Trailblazers in the Western Conference semifinals. They seemed to glide by in the first two rounds of playoffs, but the Conference finals have been another story.
The San Antonio Spurs losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder looked like a blessing to most Warriors' fans since the Spurs were the second most predicted team to win it all this year, next to Golden State. However, OKC has proven themselves as one of their toughest competitors all year. Although every time the Warriors faced them this regular season they defeated them, the Thunder are playing the best they have this year.
Even though the Thunder are giving the Warriors a hard challenge and making them fight for it, since they've knocked down and destroyed almost every team they faced this season, going 73-9, which is the franchise record for most wins, a challenge is exactly what they needed.
It isn't often that basketball fans see a team like the Warriors, as many are comparing them to the 1996 Bulls team. With that, comes a lot of expectations and standards set by the fans, themselves and their opponents. This is both a blessing and a curse.
Any time people start to see a team like that struggle, they think they have broken them or defeated their reign. But, I don't see it that way. The Warriors needed that challenge to remind them of what makes their team dynamics so strong and well-oriented.
The series is currently in favor of OKC at 2-1 with their win Sunday night. Most people talking about this series are changing their minds in terms of who will win it, but don't realize that the Warriors are still just a regular team and have bad days, upsets, and miscommunications once in a while. The best stories don't come from a team running through their opponents with no roadblocks or obstacles, they come from perseverance and proving that they truly want.
The best possible outcome for them is that they use the determination that they've had all season and shut everyone who's only talking about their weaknesses up.
