By the time you are in college, you will have had around 40 or 50 teachers, give or take 10. Everyone has teachers they loved and teachers they really did not prefer. We do not actually realize how much effort they put into their jobs until we get older. Education majors especially realize the work they dedicate to us: not only do you have to control a large group of either young children, older hormonal kids, or children right in between, but you also have to teach them something. Some students unfortunately never realize how hard teachers work.
While most of us think teachers quickly grade homework in class time, or in office hours, they never tell us that sometimes they have to give up family time to grade papers. I once had a teacher who had to hand us back graded papers which she went over in the hospital. She did not want to fall behind because she had a serious throat infection, so she wanted to use the long boring hours in the hospital to try and grade.
Out of all the teachers I have had, only a few really spoke up about how time consuming being a teacher can be. People do not usually consider the circumstances under which some teachers have to grade. Whether it is elementary school or college, there is always a significant amount of time teachers have to dedicate to planning lessons and thoroughly grading papers so each one is accurate. Some teachers have to stay for hours on end after classes, grading papers. If you ever feel annoyed when a teacher says they are behind on grading papers, do not get mad, and instead consider that maybe a lot has been going on in their life.
We all come across teachers in our lives that we love, and teachers that we did not completely like to have. The difference between them is how they have been treated throughout their teaching career. However, not many people take into consideration that teachers try their best for their students to learn and want their students to appreciate them as a teacher. Put forth the best effort you can in class, even if you do not particularly like it or the teacher, because the teacher is always putting a lot of effort in the class for you.
The teacher everyone says “hates students"? It's probably untrue. Even if it seems like it, they do care about their students to some degree; they just might have experienced so many disrespectful students that it is hard for them to express respect for the rest. The expression that goes to say, “treat others as they do to you,” could not be more true when it comes to being a student. Good students make good teachers, so be the student that encourages a teacher to continue doing the best they can.
