If you know me at all you know sports are an incredibly important part of my life, they always have been and they always will be. I know that there are people out there who are not sports fans and while I can support your choice in engaging in other activities that you find more fun and enjoyable, I will never be able to wrap my head around the fact that there are people out there who do not enjoy watching a sporting event. Because for me sports have provided me with some of my best memories for as long as my memory will allow and sports have taught me countless lessons that I now can apply to my everyday life.
Sports teach you how to handle countless things that life will throw at you. I could go on for days the lessons that I learned from playing sports growing up and even watching them as a fan. Losing it sucks. It hurts. And sometimes it hurts like hell. Ask any athlete who has ever lost a playoff game or watched their favorite team lose a championship. Losing sporting events can cause a pain that will cut you to the core and no matter what someone is always going to lose, in the sporting world everyone will never go home happy because it just doesn't work that way. Half of the people are going to go home sad and upset. But that prepares you for life. Sports teach you how to pick yourself up when you are down, learn something from what happened and go on with your life.
On the other hand sports teach you how to win. They teach you how to be humble and the correct way to handle and present your achievements. They teach you how to handle an opponent and how to have respect for other people. Along with this they teach you that you have to be confident in your own skills and be responsible for your own actions but that you need to trust your teammates, and not try to do everything alone, without the help of others.
Sports make you strong and not just physically. They do not just teach you how to deal with a lost but they teach you how to handle things that you may not always want to deal with. Like a bad call that you did not think was deserving. Learning how to deal with things you do not agree with is a skill that will always be beneficial in life. Or maybe you get injured and have to come back from that. Sports are great at shaping you into a person who can find positive aspects in negative events.
Sports allow you to form strong relationships. Of course with your teammates but with your families as well. My parents were carrying me to Red's baseball games when I was six months old and signed me up for every sport that I could particpate in. Because of this I have a bond with my parents that will never go away, giving us something to always be able to talk about and share and experience together.
Sports prepare you for so much more in life and give you some of the best memories you will ever have.I will forever be grateful for all sports have taught me and the expereinces they have provied me with friends and family.
