You know that kid that played every sport when they were younger? Yeah…that was me. I was super active as kid, playing any sport that I could get my hands on. As kids grow up, they tend to sway towards one sport just in case they may want to play in college or even the years ahead. I didn’t quite realize until years down the road what being in an athletic atmosphere would do for me as an individual mentally, physically, and emotionally.
From the immediate start, being in a sports atmosphere gets you around individuals who want to learn and soon love the sport just like you. I believe the first sport I played was soccer, and I loved going to practice with my soccer ball while practicing with my friends. When I started to play other sports, I found that the friendly and welcoming atmosphere was something I really needed in my life.
I will end my sports career by playing tennis, and that same atmosphere is still surrounding me. I get to surround myself with a group of individuals who love the sport as much as I do and are still some of the best friends that I could ever ask for. I learned and gained so much knowledge from playing sports all my life, and I urge future parents to allow their child to try the feel out. From playing all these sports throughout my life, I have found that my whole personality has changed for the better through some of the life lessons that I gained along the way.
Be Patient.
How To Be a Team Player With Anything In Your Life.
How To Manage My Time (aka Color Coating My Agenda).
What It’s Like To Have the Typical Sports Parent.
Develop Confidence.
These lessons were just some of the many that I learned during the time I played sports. Parents will always sometimes fear the consequences of playing sports such as whether or not their child will get hurt or not. That fear will always be there, but if you do not give them a chance, then they will never know whether or not a sports atmosphere is right. Playing sports gave me a chance to have a voice and develop confidence within myself. I never had the strength to stand on my own two feet until I started to play sports. I found amazing friends who want the best for me, and that friendship within a team is something that you cannot experience anywhere else but on a sports team. You get the chance to be a part of something special, which I believe makes you special.
